I'm not trying to be rude. Just want to be honest. If your in or have a history of depression. Then trucking is not for you. Especially if your just getting into the industry.
Here's why. Most companies that hire new drivers require long periods of time on the road. You have to do your time with a bad company to get to a good company. "Most drivers never learn this lol" when your on the road long periods of time it can send even the most sane person into a state of depression. It's lonely and you have very little contact with people. Don't believe me??? Go hang out at a truck stop for a day. You will notice something. Intelligence in the Trucking industry is rare. Where do you think that lack of intelligence comes from?? Endless hours of little to no brain stimulation is my guess. Cause many drivers have backgrounds in jobs that require smart people. But this job can make you brain dead. After a few months it's mind numbing and easy. It's the easiest job I've ever had mentally and physically. Driving a truck is easy. Although most drivers will have you think it's hard. Pride I guess. But anyway long story short I know this is a old thread. But to anyone searching if you have a history of depression please 're think this cause you will sure get worse way worse.
Anti-depressants allowed? Employment discrimination?

Medical scam worse than cigarrettes.
Every person I encounter, who on anti depressants, seems to think the world, will end,if they miss a dose.
I rank being hooked on prescriptions...right next to heroin.
I dont think,companies,would be wrong,for limiting use. -
I've been on anti depressants for about 10 years now. Haven't got "way worse", or anything like that.
bottomdumpin and SHOJim Thank this. -
I haven't posted on this board in what feels like ages, but I had to log in to state that I am appalled by the ignorance of the individuals talking down to people who have mental medical conditions that are treated by taking medications. Way to play into the stereotype that blue collar workers are stupid, guys...
Anyway, to those taking antidepressants, I'd suggest that you tell your prescribing doctor, with the utmost honesty how the medications effect you, and leaving it to the doctor's discretion as to if you're going to be a safe driver. If the doctor determines that you're able to drive, have them write you a note to the doctor who gives you your physical.
I'd suggest you listen to the doctor, the person that actually has the specialized education to make such calls, instead of listening to the majorly passive aggressive individuals on this forum who are insinuating that "if you have to take a pill, that you should reconsider your career choices". After all, those individuals have already proven themselves ignorant as to how antidepressants and the people who take them work.bottomdumpin Thanks this. -
Can I have a list of companies that will hire you on anti-depressants ? Thanks

With a legal prescription, I'm thinking most companies will hire.

More and more studies coming out every day showing that these pills are completely bogus for treating depression. At best they give you a very short term, bump in dopamine, etc. and while they help very little if at all, they have lifelong health Consequences that are very negative. I think most people throughout their entire lives will have a bout of depression or two for various reasons or triggers. It’s actually kind of a normal thing to have happened a few times throughout your life. The key is managing it when it happens and kicking it in the butt before it digs its tentacles into you. Change your diet, look at your overall health, are you getting enough sleep, are you exercising, do you have goals and things to work towards that keep you stimulated and motivated. Pills are only a mask job at best. We don’t need a pill for everything. I’ve seen people come out of depression naturally and with a little effort and making changes.
I do understand there are chemical changes in the brain that cause depression. It’s not just being sad. But those chemical changes can be remedied through natural ways. You can put the chemistry in your brain back into a normal range without pills.
