Thanks for the advice chromedome. I plan on leaving for Central in May after I call up the recruiter a week before I plan to leave to see if everything on my end still checks out (MVR). I am pretty nervous about it because of some of the stories on this forum but I really have wanted to do this for a long time so I am taking my shot to see how it comes out. I am already planning how I am going to manage out there and with experience and advice from seasoned drivers I hope to be successful.

I have been accepted by Central, just need to give them a call a couple weeks before wanting to start. I was also looking at Stevens, but found out I was turned down by them this morning. Also found out that the state will not pay for my schooling (no shock there). If nothing else on the job front pans out this week, it looks like Central is going to be it. Better to make something rather than nothing and have to file bankruptcy.
My wife has a good and steady job, so I'm in a good position to try it out and make the most of it. Don't want any part of leasing. Just looking to get through the training and hit the road solo. -

Central drivers, I'm looking a for a driver/trainer named Sean Meyer. He trained me back in '07. He is a really good trainer and a super cool dude. He is from South Africa originally and loves decorating his truck with skulls. Any feedback info would be appreciated, would very much like to reconnect.
Thanks -
ChromeDome, Thanks for all the valuable information youve provided in your posts. If I knew I could end up with a trainer such as yourself it would make these decisions a lot easier...This is really great information to us newbies trying to figure everything out. Central is on of the companies Im considering. Ive heard Central is part of Swift. Is that true?
To those attending Central soon please keep us informed of how things are going for you. -
Central is not part of swift and never has been.
They are owned by the same guy though. But when he was out of swift for several years, after bought out by the board (it was a public stock company) swift almost went under and Jerry bought the company back. So now it is no longer public and is owned by 1 person.
He owned Central this full time though. He actually bought Central as a gift to his daughter. But it has never been any part of Swift.
He also owns several other company's.
Actually, it would be more accurate to say that Central Owns Swift. Since Jerry never lost control of Central and had to buy Swift back. -
Does anyone know about how long I would have to be in a Truck with a Trainer with Central Refrigerated?
What kinds of Trucks do they usually have for the Company Drivers?
Does the Lease program there really work out well? -
240 hours..
Everyone here will tell you run far, far away from leasing.. I for one am going to listen.. -
Thanks Celtic Wolf.
I have a teacher at the Smith and Solomon CDL School who leases his International Truck for a place called the Newman Paper Company at a reasonable rate and he seems to have no problems with It. He just tells the class not to lease one of the Trucks that the Truck companys offer to You, like with long term leases. He has been driving for at least 25 Years so he is able to get a Good deal on leased vehicles with warrantys.
