Engine maker Cummins agrees to pay $1.67 billion to settle claims it bypassed emissions tests

    And I hope Cummins pays up big! The amount of money, time and grief I spent dealing with their SCR disaster in semis, is something I think the engineers at Cummins could care less about. I hope the next generation of drivers has it easier, really do.

    Because we don't have to go in for emissions testing. All the defeat devices do is detect when the tailpipe is getting covered and changes how the engine works to meet the desired emissions.

    They could have defeated the derating and let the truck continue to run ….. but no . Make us sit and call a tow truck and then set some more at a dealership…

    At the very least they could have done what they did for Emergency Vehicles. They get a (1) or (2) key off/on cycle to continue operating until they can get back to a shop. Wonder how many thousands of dollars that could have saved an O/O to make it home and have a shop they trust fix it.

    That's actually regulatory... The standards dictate which faults require derate/shutdowns.

    Just remember, they're with the government and they're here to help you.
