Thanks. That's what I plan to do. I was just trying to preplan for any of the bad scenarios. But I've come to realize that it's probably a waste of time. Even if the employer is in the wrong, it would be very difficult for me to prove the reason for the termination. Once I'm in the union, it is much much safer. But as with most union jobs, I don't have any protection during the probationary period (3 months). Thanks to all for your advice and I will update what happens in the coming weeks.
*BTW, it's a city transit bus driver paying over $30/hr with amazing benefits. That's why I am so paranoid about losing this opportunity and feel lucky to have gotten the job at over 60 years old.

Dude, they can fire you for any reason but they will always find one excuse and you can’t make a valid claim. The ADA has been so abused that it has ruined it for those who needed the protections while those who don’t need it, get away with crap and tie up the courts on lawsuits which ruined it.

keep dreaming, you can be fired for any reason
go ahead, play the part of "the know it all"... -
All they care about is you passing the physical and a drug test. If your medical card is good from their place then you got a clean bill of health. Employers aren’t doctors and won’t question any of that stuff if you got your physical done and passed.

I doubt there’s a trucking company that cares if you wear hearing aids.
If you are so afraid, go get a job at Taco Bell. Minimum wage is going up next week. -
This is true. However, they don't have to give a reason for termination at all. The only way to force them to give an official reason is to file an Unemployment Compensation claim.
Through the claims process they'll be forced to give a reason if they want to fight the claim or they give no reason and you get paid the benefits. Either way would be a win for you. -
wear a hat over your ears. good luck

Good luck and best wishes to you. Seriously, I think you should be okay. I have ridden a few buses in my life from city transit to greyhound with drivers who seemed for all intents and purposes to be blind and deaf. Either they really couldn't see or hear, or they just liked to play dumb. Or maybe they really were dumb, those who acted that way.

Just out of curiosity, I'm looking at that IH 9700 JB truck on your avatar. I drove a 9700 for JB for about 6 years, and my hearing is similarly degraded. I wonder if we have a class-action suit here? Those trucks were pretty d@mn noisy....
FWIW, I'm considering getting hearing aids myself; I seem to be in the same situation where I can hear pretty well, but I'm missing things in the higher frequencies. Also, I have nearly constant tinnitus, and I've heard that a hearing aid may help that...
