Concerning the O/O or L/O, we have both, and Jarbo is right their is a big difference, we are restricted on I-70 between Denver and I-15, as well as North Dakota, South Dakota, and Montana, unless a shipper or CN requires us there. It was also explained to me that reason being was breakdowns should they occur. Yes plenty of places to fix our trucks but almost no other drivers to repower a load.
Most of us on this board are L/O, in fact I only know one O/O that visits once in a blue moon, I have wondered why and asked, and the popular answer was that time is very valuable. Does that mean our O/O are to good for us? No many have sat and talked with Kathy and I while waiting to be loaded. Their miles are the same as ours as well as dispatch. We have learned quite a few options for paying off our truck since this fits with our lifestyle, age, and goals. The possibilities are numerous. Some of our drivers like to stay L/O with a warranty on their equipment. Some do it for tax advantages. There are many tax advantages to O/O, such as LLC, now I pay myself as a driver and the LLC depreciates equipment again at time of purchase, I also pay my wife as an employee of LLC, after full depreciation the LLC sells me the truck for $1 and I depreciate it again. Yes the IRS is not stupid, but the large fleets do it all the time. These are things u will learn on this journey. At some point every truck has a bank note attached to it, U may have walked into PaCar with $35,000 down on a dream, guess what u are financing the rest and they have restrictions too, maybe u refinance for a better interest rate, that bank has terms too. I will say this, with JCT their are many ways to do things and many possibilities, I also can say that it is a very good day for John himself when a driver brings him a $1. Don't wast time anywhere else just go to Johns office, door is open, say Hi and I have a dollar, hell take care of the rest! Hope that sheds a little light.dabs and mushroom1464 Thank this. -
I-70 is restricted for that 22 mile stretch? I've done it several times. We even have a customer in Salt Lake City that REQUIRES us to use that route. Yes, there are some customers that specify what route the load goes on. The load I just delivered tonight was one of those loads. The paperwork had the required route on it, as well as on several wonderful pieces of paper that I had to sign before being allowed to roll with the load. I was told it was an extremely high value load. When they pay the bucks for us to run, they can tell us where to go. Most customers could care less, provided the load gets delivered on time.
mushroom1464 and fr8tshkr Thank this. -
How fast are you going???
-
I rarely post anything here but I do read all posts.I just wanted to chime in about the whole routing deal.
Fact : PC Miler shortest route is used
Fact : I use a PC miler GPS that is programmed to skip some of the side roads shortest route will take you.
Fact :When Shortest route and practical route match exactly your dispatched miles match exactly
Helpful Hint:if you call about going out of the shortest route or practical route due to weather and say "I can miss this storm and not be stuck and be on time" they will never "no" .Just make sure the re-route you choose makes sense and you are ahead of the game and call your DM during the day (it works much faster).
Question for naysayers: Why would you want to drive more miles than you are being paid for regardless of being company,L/O,or an O/O?I don't roll for free.
In reference to I-70 west out of Denver and I 90 and 94 in ND and MT .... I mean seriously those are like some of the biggest humps to cross over.I already spend enough on fuel thank you very much.
Fact: If shortest route takes you on any of the afore mentioned roads all you have to do is call your DM and they will reroute you and .... and pay you for it
That is alldabs, Jarbo and mushroom1464 Thank this. -
