I am getting ready to go to school and finally do what I have wanted to do for years. Drive a truck. Divorced a year, 48 yrs. old, leaving the automotive parts career after 25 yrs. Due to the costly divorce and payments, I am going to have to do a company sponsored training. That leaves me with a choice of FFE, USA Truck, and P.A.M.. Any info would be helpful. I have read alot, but I am ready to throw three colored straws in the air and see which lands first.
Let me add that my 8 and 10 year old live in Indy, and althouth I live in Florida now, I don't care where I live. I will just have to be able to take time off in Indy to be with them.
Thanks in advance for all your help.
Dan

Trucking Jobs in 30 seconds
Every month 400 people find a job with the help of TruckersReport.

Go to you local employment office and ask them about the WIA its a program to retaine you for another job its NOT it trade act its diffrent and if you cant go through that program you will not have to be tied to a company the Gov. pays you to go back to school
-
The problem for me with WIA is that I am a middle aged white male. LAST ON THE LIST! When I first called them the lady laughed when I asked her how long it would take!
-
Pujols....did you hear anything from Roehl yet? -
I am 46 and live in Alabama and I didn't have any problems getting WIA. It is a great program. I graduated from school Friday and am leaving today for McElroy Trucking. Go to another Career center you might get different results. I had talked to one lady which gave me a whole different story than what I was first told about WIA so I went 45 miles from home to meet with the Woman that attended our meeting and within a week was approved and started school 3 days after I was laid off and they paid every dime of the tuition. WIA does not pay for your written exam or for your physical, DMV, drug test or skills test, but that is only a fraction of the cost of the school.

sevenmph,The three you listed do not impress me at all.Mainly because of the reports on this sight. If you have to go that route ck.out Schneider. They seem to have terminals all over the country, and are driver freindly.Like everyone else said try every way you can to go thru a school and do it on your own.If this fails then at least pick a good company school.
-
Sounds like you have a good record.Roehl sounds like the way to go.Their main term.is in Marshfield,WI.and they have a term.in Gary,IN.which isnt too far from you.Good luck

Thanks for the info to all of you. I will try another career center about WIA. And I appreciate the info on the other companies. When I read the company info and others opinions on this site, it has made me wishy-washy. I don't want to get with a company that doesn't give miles. I want to drive, I want the miles! If WIA doesn't work, I may have to wait.
I really appreciate the help from everyone. -
