We’ve lost drivers due to failed backgrounds after doing all the interviews and road test. We’ve also missed out on good drivers because of the lengthy hiring process.

Based on where I live. Honestly no idea if I ever have a private one near me. I live in northern Maine. About a hour from Bangor. Only one I know of is Messer in Kittery.viper822004 Thanks this.

We once lost a bunch of drivers that couldn’t pass DOD background so couldn’t go on base. Now that was ####ed up.viper822004 Thanks this.

I actually was close to not getting what I got now. They require 'Max 6 Jobs in the Last 3 Years'. I was close to having too many jobs.viper822004 Thanks this.

Would the tractor that I'd be expected to drive be a manual or an automatic?
-
Automatic. I’ve only ever seen Messer with manuals

Hello and happy new year.
I have being looking for a new gig in trucking. One thing that drives me nuts in my job is that i do not do anything besides driving and watching offloadings. I started my truck life as a Tanker. Although I make good money with my actual job, over 100K easily and it is easy, doing nothing is making my brain soft and bored. Loved when I worked as a tanker and spend time outside, and you get a respect like you are a Navy Seal warrior, lol. Also, the only thing I enjoy in my actual job is that it is most regional driving, like, I do the same route weekly 95%.
So I wonder how hard is to learn to work as a cryo driver, how hard is to learn to offload lox as an exemple. By experience I know that depends on me and time in doing often. My real question is more on mental work than manual work.
Thanks.viper822004 Thanks this. -
It’s not hard but it does take around 6 months or more to feel comfortable with what you’re doing. You’re always learning new things because every single customer has a different type of tank. It does get repetitive at times when they send you to the same customers over and over.

But to actual learn the job, I say a few weeks

This I would agree with, this job is more mental than physical without a doubt. Especially when compared to fuel hauling for example. With that being said you can grasp the basics within a month of training, but to perfect it along with the different customers and specialty applications takes much longer.76cb550 and viper822004 Thank this.
