As most of you know, I went back to my old job supervising the steel plant in Michigan here. We have alot of TMC in and out, which is how I found out about TMC when i changed jobs and started driving. I've been back there a little over 8 months and cannot believe the drivers that TMC is sending in there!
One guy made it all the way down to the Pilot on 75 in Toledo before realizing he was 1000LBS overweight on his drives, he drove all the way back and was in the process of yelling in the face of the guy who loaded him before i practically dragged him outside and showed him how to adjust his fifth wheel.
More often than not I have to tell the guys how they are supposed to load their trucks, and it takes them on average 2.5 hours to tie down and tarp a coil. What is happening over there guys? Jeebus. I know they took away the trainer bonuses but, seriously.. They have apparently alot of guys who shouldn't be training, or something.
So uh.. What happened to TMC training?

Hey eckz! Good to hear from you, I hope all is well with the new job.

As you know, load securement in orientation is just a walk through. When i was training,we didnt have the first coil.So when I got one,I had to wing it,tarping that is,not pretty.I had a great trainer, but all but one of our tarped loads were square.

last time I was in DSM my roomie, a new recruit, said they told him in orientation turnover was like 137% ...sounds like they're really turning these guys out. I run into a TON of a new releases at shippers, and #### near every truck I see has a trainee in it. hey man, I just got my truck yesterday, is there a certain way I'm supposed to chain down this 50,000lb coil?
in their defense, I had an excellent trainer and still learned everything the hard way, on my own, in my own truck. only after about a year did I really feel confident in what I was doing. I had no idea how to use lumber tarps when I got my own truck.
you don't by chance work at Worthington? haven't been there for a while, was just at Gerdau Macsteel the other day. all day. -
No, not Worthington. It's in New Boston off of 275.
I agree, it does take a while to learn some stuff, but all the guys I talk to seem to dislike their trainers so I try to show them what I can with the limited amount of time that I have.
This kind of thing was inevitable when they decided to take away training bonuses, I guess. -
