So I work for a company three days a week average 40 hours. I was wondering if I’m allowed to purchase a truck and run loads myself when not working for my company. So with the other 30 hours could I run on my off days?

    Chinatown Thanks this.

Any intermodal companies in your area? If so, try those. I once worked for an intermodal company and several of the drivers worked there on their days off from their day job. One was a police officer and he owned a truck and pulled containers on his days off.

Doesn't work that way, and just about every person here has tried one way or another to make more money, and in the end, not many succeeded. You run your own truck, and I won't even go into the logistics with that, you can kiss your "other" job, and perhaps your family goodbye. Your own truck, plus another job is the kiss of death for a family man. I, and many others here, have tried just about every moonlighting job you can think of. Some worked for a while, but many have found, it's better to have just one job. Besides, 40 hours in 3 days? Sounds like the good ol' days.

Not limited by employers or type.
    Just hours driven/worked.
So yes you may fill out the rest of your 70 with another job or your own truck.

Have you ever worked in the service industry? If the bar closes at 3am, what time do the staff get to go home after they finish all the chores?

Ask any owner operator how much time he has involved in the business. Driving for someone else, yes, there’s a lot less time involved and you could possibly go that route. But if you own the truck, you won’t be ‘family first’ anymore.
