Just bought this ole thang and it’s got a 7FB JWAC 400, in it. Gots a 15 OD, with recently replaced rails and rearend from a ‘16 Pete. What’s to know about these old engines? IMG_4879.jpeg

    Rideandrepair and Oxbow Thank this.

Cool truck. I run the same engine. They are my favorite engine ever. That will be a great combination. Watch your water temps and pyrometer temps. As long as it’s been taken care of it should be a great engine. I am around 6 mpg quarterly on my ifta. Pretty hard to beat the sound and smoothness of a 7FB .

Now that is a pretty old girl hats off to you mate. That said i have limited experince with then personally but my grandads rig had one. Biggest issue as already mentioned i can remimber were keeping am eyeball on the temps and i DISTINCTLY remimber his rants about the damper being a royal pita. I think they stuffed a peice of rubber in a hole?

May be something to look up. That said ive seen @Rideandrepair on a few 3406b posts so he would be a good resource to ask.

I have 1 in my truck, paired with an 15 speed. Awesome engine, but I will parrot the others, watch your temps! Pulling a looong grade, they like to run hot, unless you upgrade the radiator to a performance 1. Definitely in the top 3 of best sounding engines on the road. I get 5.5-6.5 mpg, depending what I’m hauling, and where I’m going….

Remember that the throttle on those controlled rpm, not fueling. Once you got the muscle memory down pat, it takes only minimal throttle changes to shift one.

The 7fb is a good motor don’t heat it up don’t lug it down below 1550 and don’t be fondling the pump unless you 100% completely understand the timing advance and you are positive it is working correctly
What has it got for gears ? and which 15 speed does it have ? What is the suspension since it’s gota16 Pete rear end .

3:55 is what the guy told me. RTO14615 and unfortunately it has the AirTrac, instead of “low air” or just “.air leaf”.
