I really don't know much about ABS systems but i would guess that is the issue. if it rolls free then stops. and you can continue to do the same thing? roll then stop and start all over and roll and stop again?

Great, I didn’t know the correct term. My company has authorized me to cage them and roll to a TA about 10 miles away. Now I just have to figure out caging! There’s a couple of decent YouTube vids if you search. I think I can git ‘er done. Thanks!!!Oxbow Thanks this.

Be sure to use the proper nuts that come with the bolts. The profile of threads are square shaped, rather than pointed. A regular nut will fit but once it gets tight there is a VERY good chance the threads will strip out of the nut and that spring will fire back on instantly. Happened to a buddy of mine, luckily the shock of the spring hammering back on didn't fracture the chamber or blow it in half.

good luck. Unless those brake chambers are like new good luck getting the caging bolts out of the chamber. I carry a bunch of them loose in my tool boxLast Call, PaulMinternational, Oxbow and 3 others Thank this.

If the truckstop he's going to for repairs is only 10 miles away, it'd be worth just bobtailing there, have the shop there open a workorder for the trailer repairs, charge the bolts out to the workorder, then go back and get the trailer. At least OP won't have to pay out of pocket. Then just hold onto those bolts in case they're needed down the road.201, Oxbow, IH Truck Guy and 2 others Thank this.

I'll pay out of pocket.
Getting a work order is probably a 2 hour procedure.Last Call Thanks this. -
Does one look different than the other?
I’ve performed quite a few car and truck repairs. I thought I’d be able to cage my brakes; but, apparently I was doing something wrong. I managed to shear an ear off the one bolt.
So, I put in the bolt, twist cw until it seemed to grab, I couldn’t pull it out, put on washer, put on bolt, and proceeded to tighten. One side got to where I couldn’t turn it hardly. You can see what happened on the other side. I sheared off the ear (or whatever it is called).
Can you tell me where I’m going wrong!?! -
push your trailer valve in and if you can get any air to your air cans that will collapse the spring inside of the can and than you can put the bolt in and tighten it up and that will hold it so your parking brakes are released

This^^, I wouldn't "F" with it any longer, you've been there long enough. A drivers responsibility ends when you tried, but it didn't work, it's the companies baby now. If a chamber has never been caged, it could be rusty, and beyond your capabilities anyway. No shortage of trailers around, I wouldn't babysit this one any longer.downplay, gentleroger and AModelCat Thank this.

What you are doing wrong is NOT calling road service and having them cage the brake chambers, they are equipped to possible find the issue and get you going. If your company is too cheap to do this and depend on you to be their mechanic, you need to tell them it won't move and have road service to the work.downplay, gentleroger and buzzarddriver Thank this.
