Me also. But I'd have hated seeing OP pay for the head to come off without a proper test confirming it.

I appreciate the push to exhaust all avenues of testing before doing the major repair.
I use this forum on almost a daily basis for all the knowledge and advice that it has in it even though this is my first time posting.

I was charged basically $13k for a OEM Cylinder Head. Final results. Plan on picking the truck up Thursday or Friday

Don't mean to be an *****hole and maybe wrong, but it looks like items you were charged for parts separately, like the intake seals that are in the kit with that part number. I had this happen at a Freightliner dealer last November.

Oh here is a link for the kit contents -

Detroit Diesel DD15 Cylinder Head Gasket Kit A4720162120

What was really wrong with the head?

    Cracked?

I will bring this to their attention when I pick up the truck. They usually buy the stuff directly from the dealership and I will ask what was the exact problem. They are Ukrainians and English is their second language so it's kind of hard over the phone. They are honest with me...though don't take my word for it. I could easily be a sucker

I would not wait, and I would ask for the head back, there is no core on new heads.

    AFC Thanks this.

They are showing that kit in the invoice for $700+ whereas the link shows over $1k

The kit part number is a complete kit to do a head replacement, I have bought them for as low as $560, and they are complete with all the gaskets, the link is to show you the kit's contents as it is invoiced on your BoS. The point is this, shops will do this to make more money, if they invoice the part number, the contents should not be paid by you separately.

I asked my mechanic about the head, he said for you to get it and keep it, there may be a chance that it is usable and just needs to go to a shop to be "reconditioned", you could make some of the money back by also selling it if there is no major problems.

My neck of the woods a head rebuild cost around $2-3k.

"They are Ukrainians and English is their second language"

That's a big red flag, I'd never deal with them.
And all of the positive reviews are probably fake.
