NY state law for non resident
It is unlawful for any person to carry, possess or
transport a handgun in or through the state unless he
has a valid New York license. (A provision of federal law
provides a defense to state or local laws which would
prohibit the passage of persons with firearms in interstate
travel if the person is traveling from any place where he
may lawfully possess and transport a firearm to any other
place where he may lawfully possess and transport such
firearm and the firearm is unloaded and in the trunk. In
vehicles without a trunk, the unloaded firearm shall be in
a locked container other than the glove compartment or
    console
    ).
So if yo can carry it in NJ and Conn you can drive through NY with it. State laws cant supersede Federal Laws

While I do agree that along with ownership of a weapon and the carry of that weapon does carry personal responsibilities, remember, it's still a RIGHT and not to be governed by opinion. I think the founding fathers thought it out pretty well.If you choose to eat, sleep, shower, and take that weapon to the head with you, Great. it's your right. If someone else chooses not to, their right. Remember, the Bill of Rights is not a list of rights granted by Govt. or anyone else. It is on the other hand an enumeration of God given rights that cannot be changed. To try do so is tyranny. Maybe we should say that if people don't act a certain way that we think is acceptable, short of violating anothers rights, it's ok to send them to their maker. NOT! Just my humble opinion.

show me the FMCSA statute that prohibits carrying a firearm in a commercial vehicle. the reason you can not carry is very simple. you may get dispatched across a border. canada isnt that bad as long as you file the paperwork. mexico? dont even think about that. not to mention the military bases you can be sent to deliver and even protected land areas that are covered under the federal gov.

illegal by the FMCSA? nope. its all heresay. the NTSB may be another story.

I'm from Texas, and have a CHL (concealed handgun license). There are re-ci-pro-cating states that honor the CHL's. BUT, IT IS NOT LEGAL TO CARRY ON A COMMERCIAL VEHICLE. Now if your're a car hauler, you could stick it in one of the cars on the trailer.

WRONG....Reciprocity has no bearing on the type of vehicle, a vehicle is a vehicle where reciprocity is concerned.

Show me a federal statute saying otherwise.

I grow tired of repeating this.

You are absolutely WRONG! There are no laws concerning firearms in a commercial vehicle. In fact I have had DOT inspections while carrying a firearm on my hip.

Agreed...I have made the suggestion that IMO this thread should be locked (and maybe even cleaned up some). It has gone full circle numerous times...

There is NOTHING more that can be added to it that will be of any use to anyone...NOTHING.

But there is quite a bit that could be removed from it in the interest of integrity and truth.

I'm not an admin on this forum, and don't mean to try to tell anybody what to do with their forum...but a few of us have made good effort to clear up the "myth" of it being illegal to carry weapons in a CMV.

We have provided facts where the "naysayers" have provided NOTHING, besides an old wore out misunderstood law about firearms and Hazmat, and that statute DOES NOT refer to the truck...only the trailer.

I know the myth circulated for many years...and it won't go away easily, but it could start right here.

The logic behind locking the thread: Locking it will force people to read it if they are interested in learning anything from it...and prevent people from posting nonsense in it.

Thats my story, and I'm stickin to it...:yes2557:
