This may sound kinda twig and berry but I found a Granola called Bare Nekid, I get that and some organic yogurt and it's a great brekfast. And this coming from a big time meat and potato guy.

It's a start, sometimes I too have a fat free blueberry yogurt with oatmeal and protien powder. If you can get them fresh blueberries are a super healthy addition. Eating healthy is a fulltime job in its self as I'm sure you already know. Keep up the good work.

Stretch bands can also be beneficial for the road when you can't make it to the gym. Will they totally replace the gym, no but they do offer several levels of resistance and you can do a number of exercises for all muscle groups with them including squats and other leg movements. They are light weight and easily stored. Flexing and holding mandatory poses for a minute or more will also give you a nice little workout, if you don't believe me try it! :) I like the idea of the exercise ball too. I've not heard of truck stops or company terminals having small gyms but I think it would be a great idea. I wonder if enough drivers requested it if it would happen............Thanks for letting me share....

About 5 years ago there were numerous trucker gyms located at different truck stops all over the country. It was a great idea and alot of truckers participated. I remember the one at the petro in Atlanta,Ga, which had a nice mixture of machines and free weights. From what I heard the guy who started them on his own money received a huge federal grant and ran off with millions. Shortly after they all closed up. It was great to have a gym right at the truckstop. It fissled away just like park n veiw, remember them? I carry enough weights in the truck to get a decent workout every morning, but whenever possible I will go to a gym, pay my 10bucks, get a #### of a workout, do the steam room and sauna, shower and go back to truckin feeling like a million bucks.

Hopefully if my recruiter follows thru with his promises I will be home each day after driving so I wont miss the gym.
It's too bad the gyms came out of the truck stops but it sound like you are still able to get in there and that's good. Looking forward to more ideas you have to share......stay safe out there!

It's not easy. I pretty much run the same area's year round so I know where gyms are that are easily accessable in a big truck. I take my health very seriously and made that commitment too myself years ago to put my health and well being above all else. 1 hour a day out of 24 is not alot. Seeing the condition that most OTR drivers are in on a daily basis is a major motivator. One can do alot in a truck with 2 50lb dumbells and an excercise ball, but there is no substitute for heavy steel and a smooth elyptical machine for cardio. I really enjoy weight training and eating clean and I truely embellish my healthy life style. I also really enjoy helping others reach their fitness goals. Seeing someone that I've helped happy and excited about making positive lifestyle changes really gets me going. I only wish that more people(esspecially truckers) would adopt excercising and healthy eating habits without being forced into doing these things because of a diagnosed illness or behind the insistance of their doctors. Sleep deprevation, job related stress, smoking ,eating truckstop food/garbage, sedentary for hours at a time driving. It's amazing to me that more drivers don't see the need to initiate some type of health regimen. I am deeply sad everytime I hear of some driver having a heart attack and dying in his truck or behind the wheel. It really does'nt have to be that way.

Just out of curiosity, what do you think of the Bow flex select tech. 552. I know they only go up to 52 lbs. But, it has a better variety than just keeping the 50lbs dumbbells around, and I think it takes up the same space.

Just wondering if you've ever tried them, and what do you think of them if you have?

Check out the Power Blocks.......I own a set and I just love them......I have seen the bowflex select tech and they seemed rather bulky and combersome to me.

HEY BUDDY. I resemble that remark!! LOL

Heck I actually eat better on the road these days than at home. That's pretty sad. I had back surgery a few years back and was basicly laid up for a good 3 years and gained a bunch of weight. Then I lost my Asphalt Company two years ago and I think I got depressed or something. ANyways it wasn't good and I got into horrible shape. Now it's back to trucking and trying to get back into shape. twigs and berries!! bring it on!
As far as blueberries go they have become so hybridized and bred to last long enough to get to market that I thinkthey forgot to bread the taste part. They just have no taste these days. I hauled produce for many years and know a good bit about it and it is the one fruit, berry, veggy that I think has truly suffered and I do love them so it's a shame. Of course I grow all mine off heirloom stock so they are good but dont' last long. I grow as much as I can but WI has a way short growing season. hoping to fix all that as I'm trying to move to TX though. I can grow year round there
