The same day my niece was involved in a crash, another one occurred about 25 miles east. This time the driver of a car was at fault. The car was driving southbound in the Northbound lanes of I-35 in Coffey County, Kansas.

Interstate 35 crash in western Coffey County hurts 2

Two people were hurt in a head-on crash in western Coffey County early Friday.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says 28-year-old Joshua Widener of Emporia was southbound on Interstate 35 in the northbound lane when his car hit a semi driven by 36-year-old Julio Calderon of Donna, Texas.

Widener's car caught fire in the wreck. He was taken to Coffey County Hospital, which does not release patient conditions to the media. Calderon was treated at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka and released.
