I have had the shifter replaced once and believe it may be bad again. My transmission issues are if you use the engine break or if the transmission has to shift a lot like in the mountains or heavy traffic it will throw a fault and if the truck comes to a stop it will not select a gear to move until it has been shut off and restarted. This happens at traffic lights, weight stations and so on very annoying and I fell could create an issue. As for the reprogramming of the transmission I hear it was a management call on this new program to help with the clutch and shifting issues. Wish I could start in 3rd when empty plus skip shift but that seems to be out for know.
Redtwin and Cobrawastaken Thank this. -
That's what mine was doing before I took it in, and they said they had to replace the shifter. Also you can still skip gears if you tell it to upshift right when it's shifting. For example right when it's about to shift 2-3 just pull the lever to upshift and it'll go into 4th and so on. I should say, it will if it feels like it. Sometimes it will ignore you but usually it works. I just go 2-4-6-8 when I'm empty and sometimes 8-10 if I'm going downhill or bobtail.Redtwin Thanks this.

Yes I can manually skip on the up shift it just feels like if I have to do that all the time why not just give us back the manual trans.
Friend and Cobrawastaken Thank this. -
I couldn't agree more. They'd have a lot more happy drivers if they had some manuals in the fleet. They can keep automatics for the newer drivers who can't shift, but give some of us experienced drivers some manuals. But I'm probably dreaming.Speed_Drums, Gearjammin' Penguin and Friend Thank this.

The problem is now you have to special order, manual, transmissions, and from what I’ve been told Peterbilt like an 18 month. Wait on manuals right nowSpeed_Drums Thanks this.

If only they could convert some of these autos to manual for us. They are still manuals after all, just computer controlled. Yeah, no I'm dreaming again. They'd never do thatFriend Thanks this.
