I went to ATDS in Elm Mott, Tx near Waco. Having driven before and then going back through school, like I did, I can say they are excellent. There were some people that I didn't think would make it but they would shift them to different instructors until the one with the right technique for that student and they would learn it. One graduated 3rd in the class. Me being second I hate to admit. first went to an Iraq vet. They have a good deal with a good motel if you need housing. They are accredited too.

I have done a lot of research for the same reasons and it was worth it.
try to find a sage school by you they really care and only you and the trainer in the truck.

    Texasshelley,

I'll second the previous poster advising you to make a selection of school that offers individual behind the wheel time. A school should provide you with a breakdown of hours for 4 key teaching/learning areas.

    1) class room
    2) range
    3) lab
    4) road time

The # of students in the class room was the least important to me. However, I'd recommend a school that does lab work in small groups, and range/road learning with just YOU and the instructor in the truck. I can't speak of the value of PDTI certification, other than a few companies only recognize PDTI graduates as candidates for hire. The small private school I attended is a former PDTI certified that opted out of that accrediting agency due to the school owners perception of invasion of student right to privacy concerns. (as shared with me) He was not comfortable furnishing driver license and Social Security #'s of enrolled students to PDTI. However, the course syllabus remains as prescribed by PDTI, and exceeds their minimum number of hours.

I don't really understand the value of 300 hour, twelve week programs of study for CDL training. Firms hiring new inexperienced drivers require varying periods of orientation, training with an experienced driver for good reason.

As for getting discouraged with what you are reading on-line. Take it from whence it comes. There are many, many wonderful drivers doing the right thing, and living a very happy life. On the other hand, there are many driving that aren't happy today, weren't yesterday, and are doomed to be just as miserable tomorrow and next week. Often times if they have nothing to gripe about, they'll make sure to find. Don't spend to much time on the BAD ciompany thread, visit the family and jokes forum.

    Best wishes to you..

Thought I would put my 2 cents in. I went to C1 in St Louis MO. The instructors were great and I enjoyed my time there. The hotel was about the worst place I have ever stayed but I stuck it out for the 3 weeks. They promised to help me get my CDL in 3 weeks. They did that! Many will argue that. But their point was your trainer will teach you how to drive and C1 gets you your CDL. So far this has been the truth.
