Well hate ta disagree with ya here a little bit, Work for a mjor healthcare manufacturer/supplier in Northern CA. I pull in $1100-1300 after taxes weekly, work 4 10hr days (although its 12.5 2 days and 14-16 other 2 days with a 34 hour off in between 2 16 days) get full medical, dental, 401k, profit sharing, vacation, pto time 2 1/2 times pay for holidays...etc..Everything palletized and use powered plt jack to offload at hospitals... of course you have to live in CA for this wage as we are the highest paid drivers for the company. The next highest are in Southern CA. Pulled in $85,231 last year...JustSonny Thanks this.

Looney has the RIGHT ATTITUDE for any job as well as trucking. Worked for Marten back in 1999-2001 for 2 yrs. Thought they were a great company. Last 2 trucks I had with them were brand new. I never YELLED, SWORE OR PISSED OFf MY DISPATCHER. WHY???? Cause he's the one that controled my paycheck. He hates you guess what he ain't going to do all that for ya. I was never late, only called 2 times in a year that I couldn't make my delivery due to weather. My 2nd year I was mostly doing P&G loads (don't know if they still do them) where the trlr was preloaded, got to the receiver and was off loaded in 2 hours or less......I only left cause I took 1/2 a year off to travel the world and then found a great job with the present company I work for now....If I ever leave this one I will be going right back to Marten...and in the 2 yrs with Marten went to Long Island NY once...
Any job is about attitude. The ones who did poorly were the ones who had a piss poor attitude. You got to take the good and the bad....LooneyTune, Kabar and Dryver Thank this. -
Couldn't have said it better. I am not saying that the posts on the 'BAD' board are all wrong, but I bet if you filter the posts with a 'poor attitude' filter there will be a lot less of them. I don't even read there anymore. NYC is the monster under the bed for truck drivers, Its never as bad as it is painted out.

Glad to hear that you have a good job, especially in CA. but take into account that $1100 there is like $800 most other places. What do you pay for rent/morg? $1500? I have a 3 bed room 2 bath 2 car garage in the country on 29 acres. I pay $675 for it. What would that cost in the bay area. $1800-2000? Besides you spend 6 days a week working 87hrs. I work 55-58 hrs a week and take home $800. $1200/87= $13.79 $800/58= $13.79 I'll keep my job thank you.

How did you get 87 hrs? He said 12.5 2 days which equals 25 and 14-16 2 days a week which would add up to 28 or 32 hours so 25 and 32 comes out to 57 hrs. 1200 divided by 57 is well over 20.00 per hour. He is home when he is not working enjoying his house and you are stuck in the truck at a truck stop paying for your rent on a house that you are not enjoying. Your Alabama math and thinking leaves much to be desired. I would take his job over the one there at Marten I just left yesterday.
mushroom1464 Thanks this. -
There are some drivers that enjoy the OTR lifestyle and choose to be on the road 3, 4, 5 weeks. It is wrong to judge someone just because of the amount of time they spend in a truck verses a driver that is home every night and weekends. I drove daycabs with doubles for a while, drove me crazy, I just like the long run. BK2, you got something good lined up? Why did you leave Marten?

1. I did not like that they forced us into per diem and then were charging us 3 cents a mile for it. 2. In my opinion they just don't care about the drivers and that starts at the top and goes all the way down. 3. I don't like how they are putting most of the longer loads on the train as I was promised when they hired me that I would be getting loads to the west coast quite frequently. The only way I can get out there now is to request time off out there. 4. They are going to electronic logs and I want to stay away from them as long as I can.
I have filled out several apps and most of them have offered me a job but I am pretty sure I am going to be leasing a truck from JCT. -
randy marten aint nothing but a gangsta!!! and that the truth
