CB radio requires no attention at all....Pick up the mic. say something and set it down, You don't even have to look at it to use it!
Cell phone on the other hand...You have a much more concentrated conversation going on and it requires more of your attention. Plus, Ya gotta dial the number! (I know people say they use voice activated but I see them dialing all the time so I don't think they do)
And then there are the complete idiots that think it's OK to text and drive...Last time I checked there was no option for texting with a CB radio.
We've been running CB radios for 45 years or so that I know of and there were never any real problems with "distracted driving" I've been using a cell phone in my truck for 23 years or so and have never had a problem with "distracted driving" but cell phones cost less to use now and it seems that the new breed puzzies have to drive around all day with it jammed in their ear talking to mommy or whoever the hell is interesting enough to talk to all day...and since the advent of texting there seems to be a problem with idiots thinking they can text and drive at the same time!
Really, When you think about it...It just boils down to STUPIDITY!outerspacehillbilly Thanks this. -
#### you was using that block phone in yo truck in the 80's first cell came out in 1984 http://www.phonesreview.co.uk/wp-content/phoneimages/2008/03/motorola-dynatac-8000x-pic-2.jpg -
Nah....I waited a couple of years and put my first one in in 1986. I had the dash mounted ones in the truck until 1993/94 and then bought a Motorola flip phone that was the smallest one I could get at the time.
When I first got a phone in the truck I would only use it for very important calls and never for personal calls and my bills still ran around $500 a month!
I even had a $950 bill once but There were good reasons for all of the calls so I didn't worry much about it.
Times change...Now I have unlimited phone and unlimited aircard for my computer for about $100 a month. -
oh ok I was about to say you riding down the road using a house phone lol -
Before cellular there were mobile phones available but they were VERY expensive and had poor coverage at best...But they looked a lot like a home phone used to.
In the mid 70's Cobra introduced a CB radio that had a hand unit that looked like a phone reciever...Why someone would want one I don't know.
Maybe that's why they only lasted a couple of years. -
Yeah i bet

I can't figure out why people have so much trouble driving while on the phone. I use a bluetooth and have no problem being distracted. If I get distracted it's not from the road it's from the conversation because I'm paying attention to what's going on on the road.
BW9 must be right. It's just stupidity. -
I will suddenly notice that the traffic took over and I am lost on the phone.
If it happens, I tell the other party, I will call back when it is a better time.
Did it without the government.bullhaulerswife Thanks this. -
