I was "involved" in an incident at a company I drove for last year. While parked at their terminal and in the sleeperbirth, a driver parked next to me almost took off my mirror when leaving at one in the morning. They hightailed it out of there without saying anything but I was able to get their truck number and reported it immediately.
Fast forward to this week and I get an email from the company, which I no longer work for, stating that the incident was determined to be non preventable. I called them and verified the information. I know that non preventable means I was not determined to be at fault, but they said that it would still go on my DAC, which seems odd to me.
Also, the person I spoke with told me the report says the other driver was unknown. That's weird because I got the other driver's truck number, and dispatch told me at the time exactly who they were and confirmed that they had just pulled out when my truck was hit. I'm not sure if the person I spoke with was just omitting the other driver's name because they're not supposed to tell me, and maybe didn't realize I aready knew, or perhaps it was deliberately left out of the report because the driver is female and they didn't want to risk hurting their DEI stats by punishing one of their few lady drivers. But that's neither here nor there.
Any thoughts on this???
Should I just move on because it wasn't deemed preventable on my part? Should I report it to future companies? And does it matter if the other driver is in fact listed as unknown?
Thanks in advance!

move on, done deal..
they keep records of all incidents, accidents....it's par for the course.
you're good to go, just remember to jot that down an applications for the x number of years when applying...3 years..?? 5 years,...?? etc. when it asks....."ANY ACCIDENTS"...???
cuz it's on your permanent employment record, not the DMV.MSWS Thanks this. -
Do they record it as a not-at-fault accident for the boulder when a trailer runs over it at the warehouse? I'd be pretty pissed if they pinned an accident on me preventable or not when I was not in control of the vehicle.
MSWS Thanks this. -
Non preventable means you could not avoid the situation.
Don't sweat it; just keep the details handy for future aplications.
Since it was not on the road, there is no entry on your DMV abstract record; just the companies files.
Most insurance carriers allow one 'at fault' accident within the past 3 - 5 years and since they do not inquire your past employers [the carrier is suppose to do this] it won't be held against you.
I will say this again, get copies of every Poilce acident report as this is the only way to prove to the insurance companies satisfaction if it was at fault or not.gentleroger, KDHCryo, dosgatos and 1 other person Thank this. -
Solid, spot-on advice right therewis bang Thanks this.

Yes, just move on. Keep the documentation, but don't spend another second thinking about it.
As to "hit by unknown" - there are a couple of possibilities. First off, there might have been a couple of other trucks with similar numbers - just enough to cast some doubt. More likely, the other driver said "nu-uh", and there is no proof beyond your word and a scraped up mirror. Did you bump the mirror on something and then concoct a story at the company terminal to explain away the damage without risking a real investigation? The safety critter doesn't know and doesn't want to get bogged down in an infuriating process when he can just clear you, put an unsubstantiated allegation on the other driver and move on. -
Was there a police report? If not, no way it could be on your MVR or DAC.
I had two nonpreventable accidents in 2022 and both are on my record and all the company I was going to work for did was ask for the police report so they could clearly see they were nonpreventable. -
As I keep posting; always obtain the PD report for any accident.Dwellsouth and MSWS Thank this.

No police report, as it happened on private property, in this case a terminal.Dwellsouth and Lonesome Thank this.

An accident on private property still gets you a police report. Though I'm not sure how the company would like it if it's between two company trucks. Better than anything going on your DAC.
