Well i have been hanging around this forum since last fall gathering info and advice. I had applied and been accepted with Central Refrigerated, but after researching and talking with drivers here I backed out of that situation. It took a little while to get everything together, but I started today at Northwest Mississippi Community College localy. Being a resident it is only costing 870.00 and I will not be obligated to anyone after I graduate. There are only 4 of us in the class and it is an 8 week course. I feel I will get much better training this way, and hopefully be better prepared when I get on the road.
Today we filled out paperwork and got to know the instructor, and he asked us why we wanted to do this what our plans where. We had a short day as 2 of the other students did not have everything done to start. I feel very comfortable with the instructor, he genuinely seems to care for our welfare and wants us to be successful. He has 2 weeks built into the schedule at the end of school before the next class in case someone needs extra help to get through. I will update this thread as I continue my journey. I want to thank everyone on this forum for helping to make a well informed decision.
My trucking adventure begins, started school today.

Well day four is in the books, I am still very pleased with my decision to go through the community college. The class is small only 3 of us, the instructor seems to really care that we learn and understand the material. He also seems genuinely concerned that we understand what we are getting into and wants us to be successful. So far we have been in the class learning logbooks and hours of service, looking forward to getting in the trucks next week, he did take us for a ride the other day to familiarize us with the equipment. I will post more as i continue on my "adventure", lol.

Well we had our first test yesterday did well scored a 97 on hours of service and logbooks. Glad to get into the trucks today, we start backing, should be interesting. We also had a recruiter come in yesteday, he was from TMC, made it sound real good but we all know that is his job. but I am not really interested in flatbedding anyway.

Good thing you are at Northwest BBB! I was looking at one of the major carrier's website yesterday. They accept trainees from NW but not from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College which is where I am looking to go if I go the community college route. Keep up the good work!beboppinbigun1 Thanks this.
