Programing CECU on 389 pete

Just replaced the cecu on a 2013 389 Pete . Looks as if it needs to be programmed as none of the gauge or dash works at all.. Which software is needed to program this?

Taking it to dealer is not necessarily an option as the engine is missing some parts...unless I can just take them the cecu unit and have it programmed that way?

No way to remotely program. You need ESA factory tool to program CECU.

how do i get my hands on this sir? im guessing it just like evey other truck software. impossible to get and costs a fortune?

 

You can order direct thru any dealer and is a subscription and will be a pain to get ahold of you are correct.

What’s broken? And why must you replace it?

 

the entire dash and gauges is going haywire - constantly sweeping the speedo and rpm - abs codes constantly flickering on and off all gauges constantly sweeping for no reason... thought it may be wiring problem but noticed it only does it when the truck has been running for a couple hours.. like the computer is overheating and freaking out or internally is bad... deererunner97 provided a cecu he bought from dealership so i swapped out with that one...

anything else i should be looking at or diagnose first ?

 

Yea, voltage. If your alternator is overcharging the controller will shutdown to protect itself. Just a first thought.

To be honest, the program will cause more frustration than it’s worth as the update and flashing process is confusing and complicated even to those that are trained.

I would weasel in a dealer and hope they can get it sorted on the chassis side without monkeying with the engine.

 

thanks. what voltage would be considered overcharging? alternator never gets above 14.1.. now the voltage gauge in the truck dash is different story - the gauge usually reads at 12v but sometimes reads up to 13.5v or drops down to 9v - nothing is actually happening to the voltage, just the gauge moving constantly for an unknown reason... i put a new gauge on it to rule that out but it does the same on a different gauge...to me just seems to be something with the computer... i don't really know much about these multiplexed systems though

 

It will be high. 15-16vdc and up.

Hi Buddy. Have you fixed your issue? I am dealing with something similar but it mostly effects the small gauges not speedo or rpm. The red warning lights will flicker on off or the gauges will not booth when starting up and/or the back light is out as well... Thanks.

 

Were you able to fix this issue? I’m having the same problem, caused it when trying to fix an aftermarket digital air gauge, touched both terminals with a wrench and all gauges except for rpm and mph are not working, with the red flashing lights.
