I have been searching for a 379 but have found many 377s at a much better price. Can a 377 be converted to look like a 379 or is the front axle in the wrong location for hood placement? Do the two trucks have the same cabs and doors or are they different? Does anybody know of a website that would list the exact differences in the two? Thanks
Converting a 377 to 379

the cab and doors are the same, if you find a 377 set forward front axle it should be in the same position as a 379 -119 , but a hood is going to cost you some money google jonesperfomance , they should have hood prices and say what they will fit.
A 379 - 127 ( longhood ) is 8 inches further forward. the 379 probably have a lot more options in the cab and the tanks are usually mounted behind the cab. -
IIRC....The 377's were vocational trucks......
I have seen a few 377 dumps but mostly ready mix rigs that are 377's.... -
That there is a real good idea if you can make it look like a real 379...now if you can just rig up a condo you can be a cassanova too!

Making it look like a real 379 would be nice. Good luck

the 377 cab sits a few inches higher like the 378. also set back front axle. It could be done if the ambition was there.

I have manual for a 1998 Pete 379 127.I could scan info and email,fx,whatever.Let me know.
rookietrucker Thanks this. -
i know nothing little to nothing about peterbilts or peterbilt the company because i'm just not that kind of guy---i'm more of a freightliner man.
Anyways, i think NFI may have a few 378 setback axle tractors---which to me, look exactly like a 377(same hood apparently). So, to me if it is a 378, then the holes for the setforward position in the frame must be there---thus "easier" to convert to set-foward position. They may be getting ready to sell these as the mileage is probably gettting up there.
Actually, this all seems like too much work. i, personally would just look for a 378/9 with setfoward axle. That is, if i were looking for a pete, which i wouldn't. -
The would be great if you could. I also wonder if the 379 and 377 use the same frame, where front spring hangers could be moved to get axle in the right location. I have been building custom cars and custom pickups for the past 15 years and it might would be an interesting project.
