I'm in the process, right now, of applying, emailing, etc., with them. The recruiter was professional and pleasant, answering all my questions before telling me what the company was offering.
Give them a call. Their orientation, I was told, would be held in Savannah, GA. The thing that has me skeeeeerrrrrd is that the recruiter said I'd have to lift a 100# weight to the deck of the trailer.
I weigh 148 lbs. I'd better suddenly develop the strength of an ant, or my hiney's in deep poo!:biggrin_25513:

P.s., Don't have enough posts to send a private message, but thanks, LT. 'Preciate the heads up!:biggrin_25514:

Jewels, don't sweat the tarp thing. Out on the road, just make sure you have it (them) out when you are getting loaded. If you're being loaded via forklift, the operator will put it on top of the load for you when he/she is done. It's very rare you will have to lift it.

For the test, get it to the tail of the trailer, inline with the vertical bar of the DOT bumper. Lift it and get it up to where you can support it between your knee and the upright. Then, slowly roll it up the upright and over the top edge of the trailer, using your whole body to support it as you work it up.

In most cases, they want to see if you can get it up onto the trailer, no matter how you do it. It doesn't have to be graceful, macho, or anything else, just so it gets up there. But wear something you don't mind getting dirty. If you do fo flatbedding, buy yourself some cheap, lightweight (for the warmer weather) coveralls.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

    CT called me back, today!!!:biggrin_255:
I couldn't believe anyone was even in the office, today, let alone actually doing work---but "Lee", my recruiter, wasn't only working, she was laying down details!! She's gettin' flowers!!
If everything works out, they'll be---get this---RENTING ME A CAR to go to Savannah, GA for 3 days of orientation! I was loving that idea (no "bus lag")!

Now, I've got to start Bowflexing and Total Gym-ing it, so I can have enough muscle tone to "grunt, strain, and break wind" that thing up onto the trailer!!! Seriously, though, thanks for this technique. It makes a lot of sense. I only wish I had something that I could practice with. I mean, who has 100lbs of ANYTHING just lying around??
    Now, where do I get my whips...er...straps & chains??:yes2557:
    Jewels
P.S., I will definitely keep posting about this!! Hiatal hernia and all!!

I met two Howard drivers last week, they returned to the school and showed us their trucks. Nice equipment, automatic Internationals. One guy's driver seat even had a back massager.

They said they haul(and tarp) anything that will fit on the deck of the flatbed, a lot of coils, lumber too.

I think he said it was about a 150 truck fleet. They had all battery powered APU's and that allowed them to gross out at 80,400 lbs due to the weight of the batteries.

Def. keep us posted, they sound decent. They sent me an app. the other day, the only downside is the two week dispatch. I do like the idea of the A.P.U. seems like most other flat bed outfits cry about idle time:biggrin_25521:.
