There's a town in Germany called Neu Ulm.... we used to have an Army base there during the Cold War for a Pershing Missile unit....

    New Ulm, Minnesota:
The city was founded in 1854 by the German Land Company of Chicago. The city was named after the city of Neu-Ulm in the state of Bavaria in southern Germany. Ulm and Neu-Ulm are twin cities, with Ulm being situated on the Baden-Württemberg side of the Danube River and Neu-Ulm on the Bavarian side. In part due to the American city's German heritage, it became a center for brewing in the Upper Midwest. It is home to the August Schell Brewing Company.

There are cities all over Minnesota named after German towns (My grandfather came to Minnesota from Germany after WW I).... Southern and central Minnesota was settled mainly by Germans. Northern Minnesota mostly by Scandinavians (which is where the Minnesota Vikings got their name). I am half German, half Swede. My wife is full blooded Finn. She is from the U.P. of Michigan. All 4 of her grandparents came from Finland.

The only time I recommend against that if is you have been driving in dry fluffy snow that has accumulated all around the brake drum. It'll melt the snow, then run down onto the drum and in between the shoe and drum, and then freeze. Not a problem if you keep the brakes released and don't run out of air.

Neu Ulm was one of FOUR places in the world where anyone with a PERSHING MOS could expect to be sent... the other 3:

Fort Sill, OK(where the school for those MOS's was, and EVERYONE spent at least 12 weeks there)
    Heilbronn, Germany
    Schwaebisch Gmuend, Germany

Some managed to be at all 4 places at different times, those guys likely completed a full 20 years before the INF Treaty was signed.

Unless you have a B 61 (the only American truck I have ever driven) with a long airline to refill your tanks from your tyres, and then pump back to get the tyres full again.;-) I have never understood why all trucks did not have air starters and long airlines.

Of course, the ability of refilling tyres means you could lower the pressure on your drive tyres somewhat to give them a larger footprint to get you out of a tight frozen spot, and maybe the depleting and refilling might put heat into the tyres too? Just thinking.

While some of you are talking about your foreign origins I must just mention that both my Grandfathers were Welsh speaking Welshmen from only Welsh speaking parents. Sadly they didn't teach me their language but I can say llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.

    Slowly ;-)

I use coal ash, it hasn’t failed me or anyone I know. I usually don’t have time to wait for salt to start working and a refil of coal ash doesn’t cost me anything.
