Who said ANYTHING about hireing from a single demographic or boeing? DEI/diversity hires typically come from colleges, are trained in the same general way and to react to problems in X way so tend to be a much better fit if you want a cog to do a specific action rather then a former driver who in many cases will tell you to stuff it if they dont agree. And thus DEI/diversity hires will do things to the script and are prefered. There is a REASON many drivers became drivers and it aint because we fit into a mould.

So knock it off with the trying to be edgy and start a politics war or insert words or opinions that were never stated.

As for the drivers turned DM my experince has been 100% the reverse of what you stated. Every time ive worked under a former driver they care more about getting #### done then playing and tend to avoid doing the crap that pisses most of us off. Though you are correct if your a ####up then you stay a ####up and wont get any of the good loads untill you un#### yourself. Though Im sure there are drivers turned officer cirtters out there who do the same crap and worse. Same as there are officer critters who would make amazing drivers or who are amazing DMs regardless of seat time.

I’ve worked at three different companies, if there was a person in the office that was a driver. They were always male, and 2-3x my age. I’m not saying there’s discrimination, but if the shoe fits. I had a clean record and successful career in trucking, I’ve asked each company if I could move up. No space, but next thing I see if someone not qualified hired. I redone my resume multiple times to fit any application and no hire. All I’m looking for is a break.

Just a guess... maybe those males 2x your age could no longer pass a physical?

Because the office staff does not want the employees who actually do the work to make the money for the company see how the other half lives. They don’t want to give you that special pass key to the secret door of the exclusive club down the hall were all the after hours adult “meetings” take place.

Quite similar to politics in its way. No experience in law, run for southern sheriff, no experience in using/buying/maintaining/operating equipment, run for county supervisor On improve the roads slogan. Opportunity abounds. A split tongue capable of kissing both sides in the same lick is a plus too....

Not enough room to swing a dead cat etymology:

This saying derives from the 16th Century, when sailors were punished by being whipped with a cat o' nine tails. Below deck, there was no room to yield the whip, so the punishment was administered on deck, which afforded sufficient room to swing the cat.

    I'm learning stuff.

That's not what DEI is. DEI is purposefully looking for candidates from different backgrounds - ie hiring experienced drivers who only have a high school diploma to come inside instead of Skippy with his brand new bachelor's degree.

I will agree that some of our best office folks are former drivers. However when you look at the total pool of drivers who come inside, the "failure rate" is really high. A lot of it comes down to not being able to juggle 3 different situations at once, and is often compounded by deficent computer skills.

Last year we hired two new Driver Managers at about the same time. One was a former driver the other was a kid whose only experience with trucking was watching her brother play withbhis tonka trucks. The former driver was carried by his office mates for a long time. Once they stopped cleaning up his driver's events, his drivers got cranky because they weren't getting dispatched efficiently and their pay was late. The kid hit the ground running and quickly became a driver favorite because she got stuff done.

At my employer, everybody in management below the Vice President all started off as drivers.

Affirmative Action and DEI didn't prevent Arthur Andersen's lawbreaking and subsequent failure, or the Boeing 737Max crashes, either. Those two occurrnces are completely unrelated to AA and DEI.

Well, I sure hope it's not because you are a woman. If so, it only shows we've got a ways to go. More accurately, generally, the boss doesn't hire people smarter than them, and quite frankly, be a step backwards. People leave the "office" to go INTO trucking, not t'other way 'round. The positions you mention, are generally filled by family members, or folks "on their way up", and once get into trucking, rarely look back. Retired drivers, ones that can't pass physicals anymore, or even drug tests, can usually find an office job, but many temp or short term. After the stresses and adventures of trucking, the Walmart greeter( gone in my store) is more of an option.
