What is the best dedicated account Werner has to offer when it comes to home time, pay, ease of unload, etc. in their dry van division and what are the major differences between their Family Dollar vs. Masterbrand accounts in terms of pro's vs. cons?

If you were offered Masterbrand vs. Family Dollar which would you take and why? The current limited info I received shows they are both basically in the same pay range, have similar home time and both have driver unload but i'm not familiar with what stores or dc's Masterbrand loads/unloads. I've heard about the issues with FD stores being tight for backing and not having any docks so I was wondering about the MB customers. Also are you working "hard" physically 14 hours/day on both accounts and running the clock out? Does FD use rollers or hand carts to unload and how long / how many stops are on either account in a day/week.

Also interested in knowing if there are any other decent dedicated accounts to try and get on that Werner offers in the dry van division...

    Thanks

Never heard of Masterbrand. I do know about the FD, I ran that for ten months. If youre not afraid to work hard and long hours FD may be for you. FD uses rollers that you carry on your truck. I ran my clock down to the last minute, but then again i was running 4 to 5 loads a week. #of stops depends, there are days you only have one stop there are days you have 5 stops. FD pays by mile, #of stops and Unload pay. Yes your usually backing into small spaces on FD, but G.O.A.L, I will say this your backing skills will become real proficient, and you cant be afraid to block traffic, remember 4wheelers see trucks as a nuicense.

the FD account is offering approx .32 mile, 16.50 stop, 78.50 per truck unload.. i was told to expect about $800-900 week. I know nothing about how the account runs so any and all info would be a great help in my decision where to go..

what was the home time and weekly personal time like if any? where do you park/sleep during the week ie. at a FD store lot or truck stops? I would be running solo so what would a typical day be like start time to finish etc.. any and all info would be greatly appreciated as im going to need to make a decision next week.. you could also PM me info if there is anything you didnt want to post publicly.. thnx

Rumrunner, I work with 4 guys that used to run FD account with UsXpress. I'm sure it's basically the same with Werner. They would unload for several hours and run very hard afterwards. One of the guys said he used to work about 17-20 hours a day because he would park right there at the FD store he needed to unload at so he would start his clock until he was done unloading. Most of the stores are in bad neighborhoods and yes it will make you or break you as far as your backing goes.

I don't know anything about the masterbrand but I did work as a loader in the shipping department at masterbrand cabinet factory just after high school for about a year. It will keep you in shape that's for sure. Usually 300-600 cabinets floor loaded on most of those loads.

    Either one will be physical.

I wonder if Schneider Tanker division would be a better choice then either of the Werner dedicated accounts, they offered me .34 mile to start bumped to .39 after 6 months and said I should get about 2300-2500 miles week running regional.

I've never worked for either company but I know people who have. I would work for Schneider long before Werner. JMO

What fd dc are you runnning out of? The one in front royal payed 25 a stop and 90 unload and the miliage was the same pay. And I would sleep at the dc four nights a week sometimes I would get lucky and stay at truck stops twice a week. But most of my nights I stayed at the store and let me tell you never had an issue especially the ones around Washington dc were they told us not to stay at

FD isn't bad, you can make good money if you don't mind working, It does get HOT in the trailers in the summer. I have worked on boyh the DG and the FD accts. FD is all floor load so you actually end up handling every piece of freight. Don't let that scare you though, If you are resonably healthy it's really not that bad and you do get paid better than most other accts out there. DG is a little different, They have liftgates on the trailers and most of the stock is in 2x3x6 foot "Rolltainers" which are basically cages on wheels. Most of the stock is loaded in these and then they toss large stock such as cases of TP and paper towels etc on top of them. You use U-Boats ( rolling carts) to unload the stock on top of the Rolltainers then roll the RT's onto the liftgate, Down and into the back of the store. It's a little easier and a little faster but that is also reflected in the lower pay scale. Either acct usually gets you home for 36-48 hours (2 days) a week. I'm not familiar with Masterbrand so cant help you there. You will find that as far as pay and hometime goes FD abd DG are a couple of the best. That's mostly due to the fact that most drivers are adverse to havibg to unload. Don't let it scare you, I'm 50 years old and worked both accts about 4 years ago without any problems, would still be doing it but am now teaming on my own truck and it doesn't work out well for team drivers. Don't know what accts they have available in you area but you might check on Proctor Gamble, Target, or Lowes these are all drop and hook with a little bit better pay than the Regional Acct pays. GOOD LUCK

    TheRumRunner Thanks this.
