    Sorry this is so long....

My 2012 Columbia Glider is getting long in the tooth. I could spend $30k on it tomorrow, and the down time getting it done, or sell and upgrade. My left hip and knee are shot so I'm liking the idea of going back to a Volvo with shift,.. BUT....

    I came across a 2018 Kenworth T680.
MX13, Eaton auto. It has 918,000kms, or about 500k miles. It's in nice shape, interior is mint, couple cosmetic things, nothing serious, comfortpro apu.
It had a pto on it, it's a trade at the freightliner dealer near me. I take it for a drive and check the engine hours,
    604 hrs.

Open the hood it looks brand new. I ask the salesman he has no idea, it just came in on trade. He calls a day later, did some digging, complete new crate engine 3 months ago. He trying to get information from the Dealer that did it as to why and how and does it have warranty.
So.. do I want an mx13? What is the Eaton auto like?
    Any recommendations?
It's a nice truck, they are putting it thru the shop, he says it needs king pins, shocks and alignment which will be done next week. full MVI will be done. Price is right in line and actually a little below most other 18 t680s and most have higher mileage. APU is a bonus.
    Thanks!

I personally don’t like a MX13 parts for those motors are expensive and a fair amount of time getting them , JMO but they sure don’t have the best track record for reliability
You need to ask yourself and the salesman this why does it have a new motor and why does somebody spend that amount of money for a new motor then trade it off 90 days later?
I know what that suggests to me

Elroythekid and Cat sdp Thank this.

I'm assuming the PTO hours is the reason why it was replaced, I think it was a local company hauls flour so it spent a lot of time running a blower. It was done under warranty, then the end of lease came up and they traded it.
I've heard great things about the mx and bad, like every motor I guess. Was hoping to hear from some owners with real experience with the mx13 and Eaton.

That's why I'm waiting for the service work order from Kenworth. He says he can get a complete history on it. I also have a friend who worked for the Kenworth dealer up until recently and is reaching out to somebody he knows over there with the vin to see what he can find out.
And, I don't leave the province anymore, so a delete isn't out of the question either, I'm never anymore than a few hours from my local shop.

Dont just dont. Mx13s are absolute total utter garbage. Dont belive me go read through my near 50 page thread on everything that has in some cases literally EXPLODED on my 579 with a paccrap. At 500k everything tends to go wrong and there is a REASON most fleets ditch them at that time.

At a minimum your going to be looking at a full emissions rebuild, a new turbo, posibly new injectors, new head posible ECM issues and more. Dont get me wrong if maintained perfectly from day 1 they can be alright motors. But anyone who says they have is either an O/O retireing out or lieing to your face.

Literally ANY other emissions engine is more reliable and safer.
