Might be dumb question. On the sticker of my isx it says max speed 2100 RPM. But how come when I go over a certain speed on the interstate it goes over that governed rpm? Is it safe to run over that limit for long periods of time?
ISX 15 Max Gov’d speed

I've got to ask. How, and at what speeds are you going over 2100? Describe that situation.
Then tell us how it makes you feel -
I have an 8LL no idea what gears I’m running. 76 mph I’m turning right at 2000. Like when I’m running on flat terrain, foot on the floor, it’s still pulling beyond 2100
makes me feel good when I pass every one else stuck at 68 lolLast edited: Mar 23, 2024

Just came here to gain a little knowledge buddy. Not looking for attitudes.

Dillydog24 I stumbled across this info on another forum.
* max mechanical rpm limit for the ISX is 2700.
* Max safe rpm to hold for extended periods is 2400, and is their publicly listed max rpm.
* Factory will often set them governed to 2100 for safety.
* The engine has its highest longevity at 1650 or thereabouts when pushing 100% engine load.
* Anything much above 50% or so engine load below about 1500 rpm takes its toll rapidly on the engine. -
No engine is designed to run at the governed speed all day or continuously. At that rpm you are way above the power band and you’re likely only using the higher RPM to gain road speed in top gear.
Are you utilizing the bottom end of that trans off road?
Regearing or trans set up changes would certainly help the engine live a longer life and put some fuel money back in your pocket.
But sure it is safe. Safety really doesn’t factor into it.
If you’re asking us if the engine is gonna fail, not likely. It will just live a shorter life.Magoo1968 Thanks this. -
You've gat a low gear truck that's for sure...
My isx 15 does 65 @ 1,250 rpm and can easily do 85mph (the speed limit on the toll road around Austin) without even getting to 1,800The one california kid Thanks this.
