I have seen on here a couple of times people talking aboot a truck stop book/guide. Where can I pick one of these up and how much are they? Do they have most of them in there or just the bigger chains?

Most truck stops and company stores (if you are a company driver) have them. I had pretty good luck with the one I used when I was driving, I will try to find it a give you a name. It listed the services available IE: fuel, food, amount of parking, shops, etc. Had everything from parking for 5-8 trucks to Iowa 80 size stuff and everything in between. I think I paid around $20 bucks for mine a few years ago, but it may have been cheaper.
ihford350 Thanks this. -
Theyve actually gone down in Price. I paid 5 bucks last year for the pocket guide and it worked pretty well. Heck Ive even found mom and pop stops that are pretty good and treat you well also, course your businss is there gain and livlihood. But the truckstops are ggod. Mine is the "Pocket Truck stop guide". You can go to www.truckandtravel.com I liked it and still use it.

Thanks alot to both of you i really appreciate it. Also seeing your saying on the bottom there i have to say it cuz it popped into my head:
Talks cheap, whiskey costs money, well seperate the men from the boys when we get there -
I buy the bigger guide, "the truckers friend" truck stop directory. It's about the size of a small phone book and costs about $15. It's as close to accurate as it can get considering truck stops are constantly changing. Unlike the pocket guide books, it has all kinds of info like are showers available, is there a laundry facility, is there a sit down restaurant or just fast food, etc.
When you get to a truck stop, find the display with the maps and that's usually where they are located. Flip through and decide if you want just a simple list, or a more detailed version.
And save the receipt- it's tax deductible. -
I'll put my 2 cents in on this pocket guide. It's great. You can find them at just about any Pilot for $5. You can flip though it and find what your looking for pretty quick and easy.

There's also another book called "The Next Exit" very handy info in there. I recommend all three (pocket sized, truckers friend and the next exit). The pocket sized ts guide got the most use out of all of them to say the least but they're all great tools and each offer valuable information to the OTR driver. You can get just about all of them at just about any major chain stop out there.

1nonly there another T/S guide as well. I also use that and the pocket size book. Just remember those books are current as of printing and some T/S's may have changed hands or closed down since then.
ihford350 Thanks this. -
Truckers Friend has been indispensable to me.

I use the pocket guide and a couple of online sites.
This one is very good. Its sortable by interstate and you can look at the satellite image on the map to check out the layout.
