I am currently Rebuilding my M11 Cummins Engine (Inframe).
:biggrin_2556: A little backround first, I purchased the truck a Kenworth T401 it has a new front Diff, a new Gearbox, new clutch, etc and was maintained very well by the previous owner, This truck was driven by one of his employees that ran the engine hot and tried to cool it down by filling up the radiator with cold water from a garden hose. Anyway the owner decided to just parkup the truck and buy a new one.:biggrin_2556:

:biggrin_2559: I found the truck and purchased it after talking to the owner and checking it over. So far I have the engine pulled down and have checked the following components which all are within tollerences for reuse, Crankshaft, Conrods, Head, Jakes, rocker gear, etc. The failure was a blown head gasket at number 5 cylinder. :biggrin_2559:

:biggrin_2558:I have just finished cleaning up exterior of the injectors, and checking the Solenoids which all are within spec's.
But now I am at a standstill because I can not work out a DYI method for cleaning the internalls of the injectors.
I have seen methods for small injectors that use a syringe and carby cleaner and a transformer, but can not work out a way to clean these CUMMINS Injectors, CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP?? :biggrin_2558:

I usually exchange them, if I think they are going to cause a problem. Never cleaned them except for running a good fuel supplement in the fuel tank.

Thanks for the info, I cant justify exchange or such as the injectors were in good working order prior to the engine stoping, I just want to give them a really good clean before reinstalling them into the head. (I will also replace injector "O" rings etc)

out side the injector tip you can clean but dont use metal brush, just use a copper brush o plastic brush.use a magnifying glass to see the holes:biggrin_2556:

When you got all back together you can buy a drum of stuff from Cummins to hook up to your fuel line and run the engine for about an hour to use up all the stuff in the drum and it will cleanup the injectors for you.

i would think just putting a couple gallons of methanol in the tank and running it thru once would get tehm about as clean as you can get.

A deceased local up here Tommy Andrews used to clean injectors on diesel boats by putting automatic transmission fluid in the tanks and just running the engines flat out. The joke was for $40 of fluid he would charge $500 to race around in your boat.

The question now would be why cant a person hook the ingectors up to some form of a manifold and with some form of pump force atf through the injectors on a test bench?

I know Diesel Fuel Systems has something similar that they use to test rebuilt injectors. Just a thought rambling around my curious brain.
