I'm driving for a small company. We have 5 trucks. There are companies that will hire without experience and no hair test. I refuse to drive for bigger companies. I did the mega carriers 2002-2012 and I'm just too old for bullcrap anymore.

I got randomly tested while still in CDL school.

Its counter-intuitive, but my research indicates that longer hair is BETTER in that scenario.
When I entered the industry in 2018, I stopped smoking cannabis for entire YEAR to ensure that I would pass the hair test. I had shoulder length hair. After removing your head hair, the technician cuts away all but the 1.5" closest to the scalp.
If you do not have AT LEAST 1.5" of head hair, the technician will resort to body hair. And cannabis is detectable for a much longer period of time in body hair due to its much slower growth.
Cutting your head hair won't do ANYTHING to assist you in passing a hair follicle test according to my research, and could, in fact, be a hindrance.tscottme Thanks this. -
Are hair tests the norm now? I’ve actually only ever been subjected to urinalysis tests.
Northern Nomad Thanks this. -
Hair tests are not recognized by the FMCSA but many companies are using them in their pre employment process to weed out drug users. They will still have to piss test their new drivers.

I see. I wonder if the fmcsa is worried if they implement hair tests too many drivers will fail causing a real driver shortage. It’s clearly the superior testing method.Northern Nomad Thanks this.

The FMCSA is under a mandate imposed by the FAST-ACT to start hair testing. This mandate is currently on hold because the many problems with hair testing have not been worked out. Until the Dept of Health and Human Services gives the go-ahead, it is urine testing only!Northern Nomad Thanks this.
