Measure a bushing that is installed. Curious how much the bushing compresses, how much clearance the indicator shows then versus uninstalled like in the pics.

it’s almost the same, I did have to drive these bushings in. They didn’t go in easy. I was thinking the tube may be worn. I personally think these are defective bushings. I really don’t know what to think honestly.
Oxbow Thanks this. -
I can't imagine the tube being worn as the cam rotates on the bushings. So you are correct, way too much play, 041. Now you have proof. Print out or show your pics to the parts clown and return/exchange them. The seal should be flush with the housing/tube.jamespmack Thanks this.

Now I’m stumped, this is a a Meritor bushing, kit 8042. It’s the same ID. Maybe I’m wrong, don’t remember them being this loose last time. I truly don’t know. I’m stumped.

"It’s the same ID" NO it's not. Your pics in posts #8 and 12 show just past the 3rd mark past 50 (1.5) or a little over .030. Your pic in post 14 is only to the 2nd mark past the 50 which is .020. Still way too much. That is a diff of a bit over .010 between the two bushings which is large given that the radial (up and down when installed) spec is just .010. I would like to see a tool that measures in .001 but I doubt your tool is the problem. Try several measurements in several diff places as the readings can change slightly (doubt this is your problem either). Try a reading on the other side of the bushing. Take measurements on other brands if possible. And no, you are not imagining that there is too much play.PSM379 Thanks this.

Appreciate you going back and forth with me on this, it isn’t the same ID I should have looked closer, when I got home and compared I came to this conclusion. I bought this kit as reference as well. -
What kind of truck and what is the last 6 or 8?
-
thank you, lost cause with the VIN I believe tho. It’s a 1986 ford LTL9000.Oxbow Thanks this.

Yeah at least for me without contacting dealer. Then at that age they would probably have to research it.

Went through this with Meritor s cam bushings and they told me "it's in spec." Plain and simple engineering designed to sell more parts quicker. Meritor Kit 8042 had .020" larger plastic bushings than their cam. Endplay was .017" and was "within spec." Had dealer swap one set out and the next set had the same large play. Called Sirco and they sent a set out so I could measure it myself and there was significantly less play (I can update this liter with the exact measurement). I'd bet meritor or their supplier makes a large percentage of the s-cam bushings on the market, so many are going to be "in spec" but with too much play for a new bushing IMO.
PSM379 Thanks this.
