I think I figured out (I am a little slow, so it takes a moment for me to understand) why Waffle House is soooooooooo bad. Waitress is a 4, but petite, 30 years old 3 kids. Cook is mid 20’s could have been a 5, but she’s built like a walking bale of hay, 2 kids. Hay bale physiques are NOT attractive.

Car pulls into a handicapped spot, all kinds of veterans stickers on the car. Woman gets out, 60’s, doing the “Kill Charlie” thing. For you younger guys, Kill Charlie is that idiot that armchair quarterbacked Vietnam. They’re getting along in age now, so you don’t see as many as we used to. Suddenly a couple cars come in and it’s Waffle House brown teeth waitresses on their days off coming in with 4-5 kids each, ages range from 5 to newborn. One has 5 kids, her “man” has 9, and unemployed (they have 1 together)Kids are screaming. Moms are talking about sharing breast milk and feeding the jukebox so they can listen to their favorite simp music while yelling at each other over the music.

Car pulls in, woman gets out with her two kids between 8-10. This woman is an 8, hottest Waffle House waitress is a 4. Her kids are behaved. She sits down, orders food and then starts sobbing. Of course, every woman in the place runs to her to comfort her, including Kill Charlie. Men bad! Men root of all evil! Kill Charlie is leading the charge. The woman who couldn’t give away a free hummer to an average dude is giving relationship advice to an 8. The kids, boy and a girl were quiet, concerned about mom.

As she got up to leave, I called her over and showed her a quick video clip of the old 1950s Cinderella cartoon and explained to her the difference between being nice and being kind. She realized her mistake. You can recognize the look in their eyes as they start playing back the memories. She thanked me and left.

Kill Charlie gets up to leave, stops by my table to ask me my name. She didn’t ask anyone else for their name, but she wants to know mine. Why didn’t she ask the little boy his name when she went on a rant?

“Are you going to tell me your name?”

    No. Men bad, remember?

Been to a few colonies. I'll never get over the time I saw a young Hutterite lad in full Hutterite apparel come flying across the field in a side-by-side and do a drift around an air seeder I was working on. Never pictured them as having the kind of fun most of us get in to.

We have 3 or 4 colonies up here, I've hauled some equipment in and out of the Whitemud colony. Real nice people, very nice equipment. One day it was about 30 above and this young guy comes strolling over to help me load their big Versatile and he's wearing that all black felt getup. I'm wearing a t shirt with a few holes and sweat pants, he notices me looking and says "it ain't that bad..." lol. He tells me that he and a couple friends pooled their money and bought a pickup and keep it parked a couple miles away in the bush so they can sneak to town to buy beer and cruise around town. The Mennonites are a different story....

Funny how the design of those graders never changes, must be the absolute peak of usefulness. My last year in school, 1959, a master took 6 of us in his pick up truck on a camping trip to Norway, right up to Bodo in the Arctic Circle. Really beautiful blond girls, apparently finding English teenagers in Boy Scout uniforms soooo attractive. ;):)
Sorry, lost in memories for a moment:oops: Where was I? Oh yes, back to the graders. Well lots of the roads up there were narrow and just gravel so every few miles there was a grader, just like that, keeping the surface good. We passed one, but not quite, slid sideways down into a deep ditch. No problem, they see that all day long, tha cable was coiled and ready on his machine. 5 minutes later back on track and off to find the next one. :D
