My backside is hurting, just thinking about that trip. I can see Alaska, but New York? :)

Most “bikers” won’t go more than 5 miles from the house on a bagger, and you’re wanting to do 2 days on old iron. That’s badassery.

Most can’t make the mental adjustment. If you drive a truck with the same mentality that you do in a car, you will kill someone within a week. If you ride a motorcycle with the car mentality you will be dead within a week.

Your bike has the power to weight ratio of a high end car and the nimbleness of a go cart, but with better visibility. You assume that no one sees you and everyone is stupid and ride accordingly. And when you need to, break the rules.

Are you riding solo or with a friend or two? Pics would be epic!

Word of caution for your first road trip: Out in the sticks, lots of gas stations, repair shops…etc close at 5pm. Start early and end early. I like starting at 6am and being done by 2pm, 3the latest. Grab a motel, take your gear off the bike then find a restaurant with mama in the kitchen and a cute waitress. Eat well, have two beers and call it quits (just my recommendation…some dickish Barney Fife sees that you’re not from the area may try to ruin your holiday, so if you need more than 2, grab a few from the store and take them to the room).

STAY HYDRATED. I messed up and ran the bike like I do my rig, and ended up heat stroked and dehydrated. Piss turned Coca-Cola brown. Cooked my liver and kidneys, and never fully recovered. Sunlight now bothers me. Heat strokes come worlds easier now. Those long motorcycle rides will require more hydration than usual. That’s why they make those camel pack things.

How far are you from Vancouver?

Home on my second helping of breakfast, should be floating naked in the pool in a couple hours :)

This is what I enjoy most about OTR trucking..coming home!

Normally I don’t start drinking this early however I’m celebrating my first freight contract that’ll keep me close to the house.. IMG_5038.jpeg

Lots of great advice here. Especially the hydration part, even in cooler weather it's super important to keep drinking water. The only other long distance riding advice I will add is wearing earplugs. They are a game changer for putting in long days in the saddle. The toughest ride I've done was an Iron Butt Saddlesore 1000 on the Alaska Highway in 2022, from home to Whitehorse in 22hrs 9mins on an '02 HD Ultra Classic. I don't plan on doing another, and I wouldn't have even tried it but my buddy was dead set on doing one. Sure could have picked a better route to do it, most guys finish them in far less than 20 hrs on super slab interstates. AK highway is not one of those.

Oh, and an Airhawk seat pad. They look cheesy, but man they work great. I ran a sheepskin for years before trying one out. Trick is to start out with more air and slowly release it as you go then start over.

I'm roughly 12-13 hours to Vancouver.

Plan is to cover about 7 hours the first day myself, then head down the road another 90 minutes to meet a highschool buddy. We're planning to head down the Coq to either Hope (where they filmed First Blood) or continue a bit further to Mission. Cross the river and then head back up towards Savona. Good 8 to 10 hour ride depending on how close we head to Vancouver.
