Now you got me looking for something “retro” to hang from my ceiling….

 

One of the rides I have wanted to do is the TransAM trail. Mostly all non-paved roads. Runs from coast to coast. Can be done with a dual purpose bike or a 4x4.

 

A fork up turning into a can of worms.


Yesterday we took this out to Grantsville to check on the cows. But I left the keys at home. Successful in my hotwiring skills only to find out the battery was toast.

So put the ignition switch back in, install the horn switch and turn signal out I've been sitting on and wire in a tap to make it easier to add a wiper motor later on.

I've read a lot about the TAT. By the sounds of it a thumper is the weapon of choice for bikes, big ADV bikes apparently struggle on it. I'd have to haul the 450X south to ride it, the Africa Twin might be a handful. Another on my list of "to do" rides are the Backcountry Discovery Routes, more and more states are getting into building them.

I didn't make it into any of the pictures. Guess there's always the fall one.

 

Wife and I ran into a guy at our hotel in Spencer, IA a few years back that was doing that ride. From the looks of his bike, it's a grueling ride and he said you better be good at plugging tires.

 

Speaking of tires, I think mine are tubed on my bike. Any decent product to fix a flat in those or would I be stuck breaking down a tire roadside?

 

Bad photo shop there, but regardless, "My eyes, my eyes, I can't poke out my mind's eyes."

 

You're pretty much forced to take the tire off to get to the tube. You could also run Slime or some similar product in tubes. Some have good luck with it.
