Detention and breakdown pay?

My company pays $20 per hour detention after 1 hour. They pay it themselves even if they don’t get paid by customer. We get breakdown pay of $20 per hour but they will just pay us for the day also if it long breakdown. If all else fail we have guaranteed minimum pay every week.

To be fair -- other carriers are of course also guilty of the same $$$ shenanigans. And we don't really need to name any other names.

What follows below I'm sure others here will take issue with....& that's okay -- that is in part what forums like this are for....

Here's a different way to look at what's happening here, & explains (in part) how/why I stayed at my first CDL carrier well beyond a year:

When a person goes to college, to acquire a 4-year degree, he or she shells out big bucks for such....while instructors hurdle large quantities of info at them, & basically try to flunk them out (at least, for a while).

Thus -- the student is paying for an "education"...up front...& these days, with A LOT of money.

Conversely -- a first-year CDL driver is (even with the above discussed shenanigans) is BEING PAID (albeit modestly, most often) to learn a trade/profession (plus benefits).

Thus -- one can think of their first year with a carrier like WE as an "apprenticeship"....of sorts.

Instead of a college student who's paying out the ying-yang to be "abused"...by his/her professors.

Think about it.....

I would agree but WE has nothing to do with education. I have paid for trucking school out of my pocket and at WE they have training department which is a waste of time, bunch of kids that have no clue what they're doing in there. The only thing I've learned from my trainer at WE is how to watch TikTok behind the wheel. Being a truck driver is not easy but unfortunately the government let companies like WE to take advantage on drivers instead of protecting them, without experience you're noone and nobody cares about your CDL.

Key words is NOBODY CARES. When a driver fully understands this, the driver will also understand that it is his sole responsibility to adhere to the Driver’s Agenda
1. Get paid
2. Get home safely

Protect you, protect your CDL, protect your family, protect your name. Know what I saying, hand? You will realize that there’s lots of companies that would rather see you ruined than go to a competitor. Watch your back…especially if they realize you are about to jump.
