To make #### sure that you don’t get a million miles out of it…….I mean, after all, they get to make more money after the initial purchase because they get to sell you more OEM parts.

The only way that I can think that it wouldn’t affect longevity by lugging it is if somehow they can electronically adjust the timing based on load, manifold pressure and exhaust temperature simultaneously with fuel adjustment.
My 2013 ISX 15 supposedly was able to make it’s most efficient torque at 1200 (IIRC) I learned an hour after I put it into service that I would never run it down there because it just didn’t feel right. No wonder that engine was famous for liner fretting and carbon packing!

Oh so it’s all a conspiracy to sell parts. Lol. Volvo must really want to sell parts with the new 14 speed transmission they have coming out. 12-13-14 are all close together so that no matter what speed you want to cruise at you’ll be right around 1000 going down the road.

I know how an MX13 runs at 11-1200 and I know how one rubs at 15-1600. Basically it makes more noise and doesn’t pull until it drops down close to 1300 or so. But I will also take the mpg benefits is sitting at 1150 all day long because I have zero intention of keeping a truck anywhere close to a million miles.

A buddy of mine who owns a small fleet bought a Volvo that he got a screaming deal on. It had about 450k on the clock when he bought it. He, like you, was very impressed with how it performed at low rpm. He really liked the truck which was eye opening because his fleet is all Cat powered W900’s. He ended up selling it because, in his own words, the approach angle with the set back axle and lower bumper was hindering him on some of the job sites he delivers to.

I think with better valve seats and more diligent overhead adjustments, my ISX 15 would have made it to a million miles but I got financially tired of the emission systems and the $7000 they wanted to replace the factory turbo when it “locked” up (part only). The blow by and oil consumption were still near perfect when I yanked it out and slapped a Cat in it. It ended getting reinstalled into another truck without having removed the head and the oil pan…….not sure what ever became of the old red POS. It had 587k when we divorced.

It's not about lying about the torque curve. It's about the fact that sitting right on the peak of the curve all day every day frets mains and liners. Sure you'll burn less fuel beating the snot out of it like that. If that makes up for a premature overhaul, or more probably a crate engine because you windowed the block, keep at it.

I looked at the chart when I was driving that motor. Torque was 1100 to 1400 with hp kicking in at 1400 to 1700.
