There's also another thread called "Werner, Thank God, not what I heard" or something like that where real drivers are posting experiences.

My bf works for Werner so I can help you out with more specific questions - your current post is pretty broad - It could take 20 more pages just to talk about Werner without a little direction.

But he works out of the PA terminal - anything specific to the Georgia one I know nothing about.

i went to roadmaster in jacksonville fl. my team partner werner assigned to me went to roadmaster in san antonio. i don't know how other schools are but they seemed to be really good at what they do. all a school does is teach you how to pass the cdl test and give you a truck to do it in. they teach you nothing about the real world of trucking. do yourself a favor and while in school during breaks talk to the instructors they can give yo a lot of hints and tips for when you get out on the road to not go broke during the training period. with werner now. the training is said to take 8weeks. 300 minimum hours. it took me 11 weeks and 3 trainers. but in the end i am now out making over 1k a week which is fine by me as i have no wife kids or real bills other then cell phone, cigs and food. sorry if this was long winded but maybe i answered some of your questions.

Just wanted to say "Thanks Bob" for sharing your werner experience with us. I have really enjoyed your posts and found them to be informative and helpful. I've just recently graduated from a trucking school with my CDL's and Werner's were one of the companies where I received a pre-hire. It has been hard to decide which company to go with especially when first starting out.

I actually hadn't expected to get hired because of my age and being female (Surprise). In truth, I didn't know if I would be able to even graduate (Surprised Again)!lol I Absolutely Love These Trucks! But schools (in my opinion) only 'acquaint you with the basics'. I want to learn the skills of becoming a good, safe, and responsible Professional Truck Driver. So the training aspects of a company is one of the top-most factors i'm looking for. To do a good quality job at anything in life comes from good training, applying yourself to learn the skills, and experience.

I've worked for 23+years in factory work and have dealt with the complainers, whinners, and the so-called kings & queens that think everything in life should easily fall into their lap at someone else's expense, you know "The Company should be priviliged that they have blessed them with their presence" attitude. I am so ready to start another career and I've seen and heard enough to know that driving a truck is hard work and more than just holding a steering wheel.

All you truck drivers have my total respect!!!!

After talking to numerous recruiters from a variety of companies, I kept coming back to Werner's. I'll be starting orientation in 3 weeks and I'm going to give the company my best and if my best isn't good enough, it's not Werner's fault. I figure they have dealt with enough people to know if I have what it takes to be a good driver and asset to their company. Thank you again Bob for your posts. I admit i'm a little scared of starting this lifestyle 'solo' this late in life but after reading your posts i'm excited & ready to get started.

Thanks for the post. I also went from manufacturing (28 years) Not much going on in that field these days. The best thing I've ever done. I love this job.

All I can say at this point is be pleasant, be on time, be safe and you should be ok. I finished orientation November 30th, 2009 and it has been quite a ride. At the current time I am helping out various dedicated accounts.

I went into this profession with the attitude of just getting that one year of experience. So far I've gotten quite a bit of experience.
I have been nice to the dispatchers and budgeted my time efficiently. I try to be at or very close to the drop off point a day ahead so I don't have far to go when the load is due. I invested in a Cobra GPS and it was money well spent.

I had quite an interesting conversation with another Werner driver today. I got to a shipper and he was waiting for his load. He came right over to my truck as soon as I parked in the waiting area and proceeded to trash Werner for all the things they are doing to screw him.

Let's see they make him wait for a load. They give him all the bad loads.
They offered him a Dollar General account and he was even mad about that. How could they be so cruel? "They should have known I have knee problems. They are just trying to get me hurt."

In addition the company never gets him home because he lives in Florida. "All the truck drivers say they have loads to Florida." How could anyone be treated so badly. In addition his roommate died and his roommates brother sold all his belongings so he's been living out of his truck for the last two months.

Here is the real kicker. He says to me that he backed into another truck a month ago and he's just waiting for the hammer to fall. Well the real truth emerges. Gee maybe he's not that great of a driver after all. Anyone who harbors that much negativism could very well be a hazard on the road if you ask me.

That's about it. Keep a good positive attitude and this is a fun job. Be negative and you will be very unhappy.

I have to leave now to have my secretary correct my grammar and stuff. (Inside joke)

    God Bless, Bob the Trucker

Thanks Bob, I guess no matter where you go or what you do you'll always be in the company of negative attitudes. Sometimes I feel like telling these individuals "I don't see a gun held to your head making you stay with this job!" or "Have you forgotten your way home?" :biggrin_25516: Oh, well....

Whether I can cut-the-grit or not, I'm thankful that at least I've had the opportunity to give it a try. As for your secretary.....lol.....enjoyed that post immensely!LoL!:biggrin_2559:
