Marty007 you will find out quick whether you like otr trucking or not. Its nothing like what you think its gonna be. Hope you can handle stress, cause youre gonna get some. Your dispatcher is going to be the most likley cause of your stress. You will work around 70 hours a week for maybe 600.00 take home. Some weeks more, and some weeks less. With that being said, i enjoy my otr job. If you like the lifestyle, and dont mind staying out for weeks at a time, as well as sitting around at a shipper or reciever for hours sometimes, you may like otr also. Its not uncommon to sit for five or six hours, but the usual wait is only two. Good luck to ya.

You can leave a car at the Atlanta terminal though. If you can talk your way into there, I'd recommend it.

How much did your training cost and how long does it usually take to complete? When do you start getting a paycheck?

I went to AllState Career Institute in Baltimore for my CDL training. The school took six months and cost $7500. I would recommend this school to anyone looking for a CDL. But definitely go to the Baltimore campus if you can. The Philadelphia one isn't as nice.
As for a paycheck, I got mine within two weeks and the Werner payroll dept rarely failed to pay me on time and correctly. Once in a while a trip didn't get in by the Tuesday midnight deadline and I had to wait for the next week to see that money but that's really not the company's fault.
Good luck in your new career!
