So I recently bought a used 1995 379.
Previous owner had plastic chrome covers on steer axle hubs. I removed and got two new covers from Peterbilt based in the VIN. The right side fits but when I went to do the left side I discovered it’s a different size. Can clearly see different pilots count and it does kinda have a little ‘hop’ around 65 mph that feels like front end. Just got brand new steers and they balanced good. Just wondering what’s up with this and would it be ok to run it like this or not?
The CR-1703 is what Peterbilt shows according to the VIN. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

That bottom hub pictured is not factory. It's been replaced at some point. Running two different hubs is safe and will not cause any direct issue. Internals and specs are the same.
Bottom hub looks cast, top is aluminumGoodysnap Thanks this. -
Thanks I appreciate the info.
The bottom pic is the part Peterbilt gave me according to the VIN so I was thinking the top pic one wasn’t stock. But if it doesn’t matter that’s good to know.Big Road Skateboard Thanks this. -
I may be mistaken then. Most would have came with aluminum hubs i thought. Often times a hub has to be replaced and aluminum is not available in stock, but cast is.
When you're in a bind, you use what gets you rollin. Did both spindle ends look the same? Possibly the spindle had to be replaced too -
Yeah I can tell the previous owner used whatever worked at the time and I get that.
Not sure about the spindles. I was just doing stuff here and there and was just wanting to replace the hub caps cause they looked old and dirty. Plus something is going on cause there is some hop type vibration when I hit about 65 mph.
Got two new steers and the guy said took very little weights to get them to balance. So I figured that ruled out tires and rims causing it. It’s not bad bad but something isn’t right. So I just wondered if the mismatched hubs had anything to do with it.
