Just talked to friend thats having air conditioner issues.

    Apparently his compressor started smoking.
Replaced compressor and now the couch doesn't engage when he attempts to fill the system.
If he hot wires the compressor it engages but immediately built excessive pressure.
Any advice on what to look at for him

Sounds like a blockage somewhere. Did he replace the dryer?

    He said no blockage,
Replaced dryer and some sensors under hood.

I told him to start studying the wiring diagram. My thought is it should engage the clutch when you turn it on no matter what, once running those sensors or whatever they are should engage and disengage the clutch accordingly. If it doesn’t engage when you turn it on to me that means something is preventing those sensors under the hood from doing thier job. Problem has to be in the dash someplace. Does that make any sense to the mechanics out there?

if it has a big aluminum filter it probly has an orifice tube. if it has a black steel filter it probly does not have the tube. the tube should be changed anytime the system is open cause they plug up easily. if the compressor self destructed its better to replace the condenser too.

It's essentially like a little inline filter in one of the freon lines. Can be hard to find. Google it for your specific vehicle and you might find a pic or info.

Prostars are computer controlled, including the HVAC. There is a good chance the body controller detected either too high or too low of pressure and now has a latched code that will need Diamond Logic Builder software to clear to allow it to run again. Or, if the body controller is still detecting other faults that are active related to the ac, it will not power up the compressor. Power to the compressor comes from the body controller. Do not wire or power direct.
