Shiney box, if you want to keep it decent, yank it off there once a year and sand/repaint the hangars, that style likes to corrode and rust jack/galvaniclly corrode the aluminum pretty fast.

Wilson wants a polishing friend ...

Yea its why i paid to have it cleae coated before it was put on and then waxed it the same day. Sadly its welded on (intentional because i reinforced the hell out of it) so not going to be easy to remove. Best i can do it hit it with the turtle wax and the ball every other week and sand then re coat the areas with diamond finish that get bad every time it becomes an issue. That said if you got any suggestions for a good product outside turtle wax, citrashine and a buffer to keep it pretty i am all ears! I really do want to keep my nice crap actully nice.
The tank is one of those ultra cheap unsealed aluminium ones that megas use. Thats about as polished as i can get it no matter how much i sand and buff. Its been stained and has some pretty deep pitting over like 80% of it. Its why the straps are ultra shiny and the tank...is not.
I plan to actully replace the tanks entirely once the engine is replaced. Been focusing on stuff like the transmission, engine, diffs ect over cosmetics. Figure i can make it pretty once ive fixed the things that will get me an OOS or destroy my rig.....I do want to get a 130 split tank and an 80 painted the same color as my rig at some point. Then swap the steps for TMC style metal ones at some point. So for now im just dealing with it and buffing them best i can every time i get a truck wash.Siinman Thanks this. -
I doubt you had the aluminum box welded to the steel hanger... right? You just mean the hangers are welded to the frame? Could be wrong, but
If what i said was true, then pulling the aluminum box off yearly and just clean and paint hangers in place should do the trick, if you do it in spring after the last salt, should keep the box in okay shape a lot longer. Doing this will also give you a chance at seeing if/when the hidden welds on the hangers are cracking (i did NOT do this for 6 years and had to significantly reinforce the box and completely dissassemble and reweld the hangers that were in danger of falling apart)Siinman Thanks this. -
Pretty much, the hangers are half inch stainless steel directly welded to AND bolted into the frame then covered with the same ceramic paint and clear coat as the frame. The box itself got stainless steel welded along the inside to reinforce and protect it before they used 1/4 inch plate welded inside AND outside along the bottom and back in an L basically. That got drilled and bolted down with 12 bolts per side in the steel reinforcment strips to the hangar. Then for good measure the bolts got hit with clear coat to help protect them from rust.
Like i said pain in the ### to remove especially for one guy. #### thing weighs like 60 pounds now and added almost 120 pounds to my dry weight lol. Overkill? Yes, but i really didnt want to replace the stupid thing. -
In my opinion, the PETE will be able to hold and carry the load, but to pay for repairs for a PETE are very expensive, but if you drive it well, you can do it and anything is possible if you have a PETE to get the job done. that's my opinion.

Once again green has proven to be awsome. Had the cabs temp sensor fail but was near one of their shops. In and out in less then half an hour and they didnt charge a dime to fix it either. The longer i have this unit the more impressed i am. And considering this is the only major failure in almost 8k hours outside a waterpump id say this is a rock solid unit.

And another APU update 8000 hours.
834 on the oil. Used .66 GPH, oil change was $128 due to discounted oil. 550.44 gallons used average cost of $3.62 a gallon $1992.60 cost vs $4857.22 running the main engine for a savings of $2864.62 and an overall savings of $26,043.02 so i have entirely doubled the purchase cost in savings to date.
Also my steering gear failed on the truck and that got replaced now as well as had my batterys boil over in this heat lolCorsairFanboy, ducnut, Siinman and 1 other person Thank this. -
How long since last alternators install? (apu AND truck) overcharging can be a big issue as well as under...Siinman Thanks this.
