Hello All,
So my DUI is now over 5 years old. I have had no traffic infractions since my DUI. So I have reached out to a few companies who require me to have at least a year of recent experience within the last 3 years. The only recent experience I have is locally when I was working for my local city for about 6-7 months. Do any of you know any companies that I can go to without spending 2-6 months on a truck with a trainer? I have a wife and kids. She understands I am going back on the road but to be on a truck with a trainer for so long just does not sit right with me. I attempted to go back to the company I was with previously before my DUI but they said my DUI needed to be 7yrs or longer. I am out of NC so any help would be awesome.
I am looking for a dedicated route if possible. I do not mind going full OTR if needed.
Thanks for your help!!!

No company likely worth working for is going to just hand you the keys to a truck after 5 years without sending you out with a trainer first. And even if they would, their insurance company wouldn't. If you want to get back on the road, you're gonna have to jump through a couple more hoops. The consequences of a DUI are many and long lasting. I know from experience. Best luck to you.

Where are you located?

Which companies have you reached out to? Be prepared to go through a refresher, or even spend a month with a trainer. At 6 or 7 months local, that's showing pretty much 0 OTR experience. The freight market is tough, so drivers that lack experience will have difficulty getting on to a company. It isn't impossible, but be prepared to do whatever it takes, and work wherever you need to to get to better jobs.

Asking you because you seem very knowledgeable. OP never mentioned completing a SAP program and my belief is that he’ll need to.
If so, it’ll be a huge hurdle to clear in today’s market.wifi_guru and bryan21384 Thank this. -

A DUI is different from failing a random DOT alcohol test. One is covered by State regs and the other is federal. The DUI doesn’t hit as hard. Well, unless the regs have changed recently, that’s the way it worked.Concorde Thanks this.
