    Hmmmm.....You've got me stumped there. I haven't heard of any guys going to SAP for a DUI to my knowledge. I know my company told me that any type of drug and alcohol event that occurred in the last 3 years, they wouldn't even look at a driver. They did hire a guy that had an alcohol event while working for his last company but it didn't appear on his record til much later. They had to let him go because of it. Then there was another driver who had a beer in his truck, got let go but got hired on because his previous company only put on his record that it was a violation of company policy. The industry seems more forgiving of alcohol events than drug events, provided you didn't do any of them while driving. I know for for a fact that National Carriers will hire a driver with a DUI that's 5 years old, and I think Justin Time Transportation will too. If I had to wager a guess, OP's bigger issue is the lack of overall experience. He's basically a newbie. He'd most likely have to go out with a trainer. The issue is that the number of companies hiring inexperienced drivers has dropped so dramatically this year, that new drivers are having a much harder time than they used to getting on somewhere. There are some companies that fly under the radar that may give him a chance, but he may have to take whatever he can get and do whatever it takes to get some experience.

    I'm thinking he may have to go to someone's training program and start over even though he has a CDL. I looked at Epes out of Greensboro, and they take students but he'd have to be a recent graduate, and that'd be a great company to get started with. Maybe CFI, Prime, Crum, Witte Bros, all of them have in house CDL Training I believe.

    I looked into Witte Bros years ago and vaguely remember them requiring 5 years experience. They do have nice equipment and drivers that don’t bring attention to themselves.

    @TripleSix cleared up my original mind fog. Since it wasn’t during a random he gets a free pass on the clearinghouse.

    Just a bad time for finding a job right now and even tougher with a previous DUI.

    Oh yeah Witte has a driving school now. It's a pretty long course too. They don't just funnel students in like some of the others. They start a new class every 2 or 3 months. I do agree, they have very nice equipment. It's always clean too

    It’s not that I’m out with a trainer as that is no issue. I just don’t want to be out for longer than 6 weeks with a trainer. With a trainer I can’t get home when I need too. Even if they get me home I’m stuck until another trainer is available

    Were you married with children when you got your DUI? I’m not being a buster, hand, but you going OTR is a bad idea. The choices that you and I make have a huge effect on the family. Bad choices destroy the trust. The only way that you could possibly be successful in OTR and keep the family together is if the foundation of trust was 100% solid. If your lady was with you during the DUI, she might not say it, and she might not think so, but THAT HURT. Trust is fragile, hand….

    Look into getting on a food service deal, or even flatbed regional. The food service is better cuz you will be home every day. It’s work, it can be grueling, but it’s respectable and will allow you to do the more important things. Respect builds trust.

    Luck in battle, hand.

    Go to a LTL company as a dock worker. Make sure they have a dock to driver program. You can ask that in the interviews. Then have them retrain you into becoming a driver. Probably ride around for a week since you have experience. Driving a forklift isn’t bad as people think. Plus dock workers make a lot of OT until you start driving again. You’ll be home everyday also.

    If you have a cdl and you get a dui. It's a 120 day state suspension but a 1 year fed suspension. They work together.

    A second dui in 10 years would be a longer state suspension. Sounds like Anything in any time-frame would be revocation for fed. Example. 20 years from the first offense.

    I'm not sure if there's a difference in punishment between car or cmv when caught.

    I'd think a random would only effect his cdl somehow. Since cars don't get randomed.

    Our refresher is like 9 days at the cdl mill school, followed by 3 weeks with a trainer.

    @BarberTrucker

    FFE’s got a yard in Rocky Mount, not sure what if any positions they have open. KLLM southeast regional appears to be open atm: Guaranteed Pay Southeast Regional Class-A CDL Company Driver - KLLM Transport Services
    Been awhile since I’ve seen that listed. I’m not sure about the DUI fall-off though.
