Okay so im trying to get into the tanker business and I've got an offer for a fuel driver. It's load pay and they pay 55 a load for in the city and 65 for outside of city and 75 for the surrounding towns. They said I should average 6-8 loads a day which seems really good, but I've got a couple buddies in tanker and they said 6-8 loads a day is unrealistic and the load pay is super low. Anybody who does fuel specifically that can give me some advice here?

first congrat, second how much exp and time driving fuel ? It all depends on where your at and what your doing . a propane delivery driver doing a route daily is different than a fuel driver delivering to a truck stop or doing speedways in ABQ.. The best our guys get is 5 with a ocasional six and thats if everything everywheres works great. ( no lines at racks, plenty of allocation, no delays at the store, - a lot of ifs.4 is bout average fo 12 hours and anything else is really good. As far as pay same applys, if your first load is 12 miles from rack and you have no issues ,then its about average for a new guy here , but 220 a day for doing four loads local is pertty low.

Lav25 is exactly right 6 to 8 that has to be city. I work at pilot 8 loads would be very hard to do for reasons already stated every thing would have to go right no wait at the racks and going in there 8 times a day good luck.We have guys that run 5 but the rack is 3 miles away and they are going to the same truck stop and they work 12 hours .They are paid by the hour so they’re not killing there selves.6 to 8 would be very tough.
Lav-25 Thanks this. -
It is in the city, in Tulsa OK running nights. But yeah 55 seemed really low to me even if I'm only going 10 miles or lessLav-25 Thanks this.

Pilots are pretty far spread out usually though right? This is all within 10 miles from the rack. Anything over 10 miles goes up in pay I think. But 55 still seems really low

Yeah it's a local city route under 10 miles a load supposedly and it's st night

Pilots and Gemini pay by hours , Coastal and UPT and Grondyke by the load still . We pay by the load here in ABQ , but our lowest pay for the newbies is 45 for anything under 4 miles from the rack and that goes up to 55 after 90 days with the Company.
Thats why i asked who your thinking of going to . If its a small independent company it my be that amount . In my opinion i'd find one of there drivers at that store and talk to him to get some straight info. And at night you should get a night differententual. -
As a comparison. And maybe not.
When I hauled food waste. The runs were 40-60 miles. In the population zone. And paid $90. 4 loads would take about 14 hours. There was no waiting except occasional dump site.
But loading was always time consuming. And one unload.
It sucked but the money was good. -
Depends on location there’s more pilots in a 20 mile radius than you think. The best thing to do I don’t know if someone mentioned it is go to there drop sites gas stations and try to catch a driver fuel guys are very used to having someone start a conversation with them and talk to them.Pay by load was very common I guess it still is.55 a load may be a little low but if you’re just starting and that’s all you can find might be worth it to get experience and get carded at the racks you become more valuable to your company and others maybe you can renegotiate or find better paying jobs
