Well so far so good... I've lost just about 10 lbs. My activity has been increased a little, but I think the big factor is the Coke. I don't drink it now. I cut to 1 Dt Coke at lunch. Then it is H2O the rest of the day and I'll have some Iced Tea at dinner. I am drinking OJ in the morning, but I think this helps my vitamin intake. The main thing I've done has been to pay attention to portions... no more pound of pasta... lol
I've begun eating fresh fruit instead of a sugar filled snack. I did however enjoy a little chocolate over easter, but still 10 gone. This week my activity is increasing. I have to make things happen! Thanks to you guys who are giving me support. I need that and appreciate it!
will continue to post weekly here with results and how I'm feeling.

the tip about not carrying dollars is cool I never thought about using that tactic. I have been trying for months to get off soda and I always seem to fail after a few days. Thanks for the info I'm gonna give it a try!

Not sure if DT coke is the best route for me, but I don't think I could give it up completely. I need a little caffeine in my diet! lol...

It isn't hard when I have no money for it. That is true... lol
It all started for me when I worked at a Coke plant. Drove a route truck for them. Then worked in the warehouse till the local place closed up. They had 20oz bottles for a quarter and 12oz cans for 15 cents. They were just getting me hooked. Them $$$$$$$ dealers! lol

Diet coke and most other diet drinks have aspartame as a sweetner that keeps your body from burning the fat from your body so aspartame is not good for you. Try to find diet rite cola in the store it does not have aspartame it has splenda, altho it does not have any caffeine its also 0 calories 0 carbs and zero sodium, its not a bad soda to drink for a diet cola. Drinking lots of water can rinse your body of toxic stuff put there by aspartame and other things in foods and drinks.

Just don't forget that food is fuel.
If you eat, burn it up or it stays with you, its that simple.

You say you work at a desk - so how do you get there?
Any reason you can't walk to work, or at least some of the way?
use stairs instead of the elevator, go out at lunchbreaks, etc?

Sweeteners and caffeine are not good, maybe try flavored water instead of the coke? And get your sugar fix from fresh fruit!

I live not far from the school I work at. I've been tempted to take my work clothes in and ride the bicycle there. I suppose I could start walking at lunch. It would probably be a good stress reliever too. I work with the kids that are in trouble the most so I get there problems and issues dumped on me everyday. This is part of the reason for my choice to change.
I've been only drinking one Dt Coke a day. I'm not sure that it is making any bad things occur. Considering the following was my daily diet:

Breakfast: 12 oz can Coke, White toast w/ butter, would throw in a donut every now and then...
    :smt102
    12 oz can in between

Lunch: 2 chicken patties on White Buns, peas if they were there 20 oz Mt Dew, 2 or 3 medium size choc chip cookies.
(you can see where I grew from)

snack about 3 PM Coke- something chocolate cupcakes hohos etc...:smt102

Dinner 1 sometimes 2 Cokes, large portions on potatoes, veges (wife felt I need them), Cottage cheese with applesauce or peaches....

1 more can of Coke :smt102

then something sweet before bed... Usually a bowl of flippin ice cream (rocky road) while I watched the "Biggest Loser" (talk about "ahhh" inspiring)

    :banghead:

So that brings me here. Time to make it happen. I feel like I've made large changes and things are starting to look up. I just hope that I can get the blood sugar level down so I can pass the DOT. Doc seems to think that 50 pounds wouldn't be too hard to take off and indeed would help me feel better.

You don't need me to tell you that nutritionally that was a crap menu!:yes2557:
But make changes gradually, in small steps.:biggrin_2556:
Swap the coke for flavored water. Ice cream for yoghurt.
Bread for cereals. Cookies for bananas.

And if you want me to scare you, I can list all the side effects of diabetes.
    Do you like having eyesight?
    Just askin . . . .:biggrin_25524:

congratulations on the 10lbs hindsy, that's a great start!

here's what i love to drink..........decaffeinated luzianne iced tea. bring a small pot of water almost to the boil, add in 4 small bags and steep for 10-15 minutes, depending on how strong you like it. my daddy was from alabama so growing up we always had it dark and sweet. i had to cut out the sugar gradually. once it's cooled, mix it with water in a gallon pitcher. i especially like to put it in a water bottle, then freeze it. let it sit out for a bit to thaw, then shake the bottle as hard as you can turning it into a slushy.

take a pair of weights to work with you and do curls at your desk on a 5 minutes break. building muscle mass will also help you to burn more calories.

Well, this week didn't hit with as great results as last, but I'm still plugging away! I only lost a pound this week. That makes eleven in 2 weeks. That is still good, but had a couple not-so-healthy dinners this past week. Eating out with family doesn't help the diet at all. Still doing pretty well with the soda intake. I've cut it down to 1 at lunch and then I'll drink water and tea the rest of the day.
Think that tomorrow I am going to put on the sneakers and walk to work. Might get here earlier... lol
Have to finish my yard work since it rained and I couldn't get it done this weekend.
Still keeping a positive attitude about it!
    Will update you next week!
3 weeks till my next appointment with the doctor for my DOT physical

Hindsy, the occasional "unhealthy" meal is actually healthy for a diet. If you allow yourself to indulge say 1x a week then it decreases the chance of you going way overboard because you get sick of not being able to have what you want.
