FWIW, nosing in used to work pretty good if I'm coming in to a truckstop at like 4 a.m. because when I would get up at about 10 a.m., usually 80% of the parked trucks were gone.....

I'll nose in if it's convenient to get in and out.

Every truck I've ever driven since 2000 was set up like that, except for one old 379 with a CAT motor. On that one the jakes would come on when the throttle was lifted, but only if the cruise switch was in the off position. I think it used to be an old Werner company truck.

Nosing up to a cornfield in Kansas might seem like a great idea but unless you know exactly where you are you never really know if it’s a crime infested dung hole. If someone is looking to rob a driver the driver nosed in is going to be a target because nobody is going to see anything back behind all the trucks.

It’s not an excuse for why I choose to nose in under certain situations. It’s what make sense for me when the conditions require it for me to get the rest I need.
Just don’t understand why people get this upset about this.
And I’ll gladly take you on in a backing contest. Been doing it for 50 years. I’ve got it down pretty good.

Bean Jr. and 86scotty Thank this.

It’s not my backing that I’m concerned with.

Question for the expert parking police in this thread: what do you do if your truck is the same length either direction because you don’t run around with your tandems shoved up 12ft from the back of your trailer?

I often have my tandems back a ways, because I actually move them to balance the load. Crazy, eh? Why should that make a difference? It doesn’t make it harder to back into a space. Heck, I slide them all the way back pretty much every time I back up to a loading dock.

    Long FLD Thanks this.

Making it harder or easier to back isn’t @Long FLD point. His point is whether we back in or pull we take up the same amount of space. Since I’m stuck out farther than the rest and nothing I can do about it ima protect my hood.
