I get paid for EVERY hub mile..Each time the truck stops, I am on the clock at full union scale. On any run under 200 miles (one way) I am paid by the HOUR, with OT after 8. And no, I don't work for some "Mom and Pop" outfit..I also have excellent health and pension benefits and my weekends are my own....Not everyone has a crap job..And not everyone is stupid enough to accept the garbage wages and conditions the bottom feeders dish out. Those that accept the low wages and bad working conditions ARE the problem. Bottom feeders would not exist if drivers would not accept their poor wages...But, as we all know, you all will criticize the Teamster drivers, yet you do nothing to better your lot except #####...and tell yourselves that "WE should" do something, someday....and that day will never happen...And the best you can hope for is "practical miles" ????? How about getting paid for ALL your work instead of giving it away ??? How about hoping for that ?? If you settle for less, that's EXACTLY what you will get.

To each their own, but I have actually considered trying to get back into the military. Even in the army jobs are slim pickins' right now.

I guess I would rather stay in shape, have free health care, and a pension after 20 years of a dead end job (military) than work forever in an industry that is totally going to hell, in a dead end job, and be fat and out of shape on top of it. Think long and hard before you leave the military, Its an ugly world in the civilian sector. You will have to jump through a lot of hoops to re- enlist after you decide to leave. The army has just about put a freeze on all prior service enlistments, no matter what the circumstance or how high the scores are.

Look what the unions have done to the American auto industry.....the Unions greed will do the same to the union jobs left in the trucking industry. I had a friend that worked at the Ford plant in Norfolk Va.(they made the F150's the best selling truck in the country) he thought his little gravy job was secure for life. Every few years the union would go on strike wanting more pay more benefits.I.E yellow/roadway, UPS and the like. Well one day Ford said enough ....and closed the Plant in Norfolk all those union boys gravy $30 an hour jobs gone forever. So keep believing your union job is secure for life.

i worked in a union plant and we could get no representation from the union, then we voted the union out and ended up doing better, I believe the unions have gone too far and hurt the workforce as a whole more than they help. sure years ago they were a good thing but today there are labor laws that take care of what the unions used too accomplish. now the unions are too greedy.
