I changed the elbow out from the 1.5foot antenna and put it on the 2 footer and i got a answer in the 15 miles between the shipper and the pilot im bout to lay down at for 10. is it possible for a 90* joint to go bad?

Before you go any further, can you provide some facts on your current setup? Using a stand alone meter not the one that is in the radio, can you tell us your SWR reading? This is really important to know.
.
Please stop using your CB radio until you know that the SWR reading is less than 3.0 or else you can and will damage the power transistors (some call them "the finals") and turn your CB into something that can only transmit a 1/4 mile if that. A SWR reading of 3.0 or higher indicates a connection problem like a break in the coax, faulty antenna or bad antenna ground.
.
Once your SWR is less than 3.0, Is it possible for you to borrow a 4 foot or longer antenna from someone to use for a test. Those 2 and 3 foot long antennas are not exactly known for their ability to get signal out. -
im currently running a cobra 19 no clue what my swr readings are. i am tossing it in the sidebox soon anyways. i have a cobra 25 from the early 80s heading my was via my uncle whom used to be o/o back in the 70s and 80s. when i get that and my astatic liner loaded 1k white antenna and astatic 636l mic i plan on going to a shop to get them to tune my antenna to the cobra 25. im not letting just anyone open that box. i want to go to sparky or someone simmiler that really knows thier stuff to get the radio peaked and tuned. barrow an antenna? i drive otr so does my whole family problem is they dont care about keying up and hardly turn thiers on anymore let alone are never in the same state at the same time all ways 2 days off lol. im in Tx 2 days later dad calls im in tx lets go eat. umm im in TN missed me again. o well maybe next time.
